I'm currently doing 9-10k a year, and have been for the last 5-6 years or so.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
About 4k a year for me and in the dont touch a diesel with a bargepole territory. Yet i drive a diesel with a DPF..
Silly thing is even though my journeys are not dpf friendly either i get better fuel consumption that small buzz boxes going by the figures people post on here.
48mpg from a 1.2 engine, when i got an average of 52 thrashing around the lanes of Cornwall. Think diesel still wins for me.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Yeah, diesel here too, overall average for me is 60.xx mpg over almost 2 yrs of ownership in a 1.4 TDCi Ford Fusion. No DPF and a 15 mile each way commute. Couldn't match that with a petrol banger (would struggle with a much newer, more expensive petrol either) and my road tax is only £30 a year......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Only did 4K miles between last MOT and new MOT in a 1.4 HDI. Still does loadsa miles to the tank plus it doesn't have a DPF.
Still gets taken on long runs, not everything is to the shops and back.0 -
How did you all decide which 'banger' to buy?
Price first? Make first? Mileage?
Thanks0 -

What ever is best bang for buck.
One with long MOT, least rust, less knocks and bangs etc. Don't just buy on mileage and age, a car with low mileage could still have had a harder life than one with twice the mileage.

If you're nursing along an old car you should probably get the brake fluid changed every 5 years,. Apparently it helps prevent corrosion of expensive to repair brake cylinders and ABS parts.0
