When it comes to servicing do the bangernomics devotees just do the minimum such as oil & filter change? People do spark plugs too? Just wondering where the cut off point is in terms of running it to the ground?

Cost of work needed, value of car and estimated expiry date verses the cost of a viable replacement.

I treat my 18 yr old vw as a hobby and fix absolutely everything. My mission is to extract every penny possible from it. The newer vw likewise and more so in the future.
Also looking at getting a fancy toy, found some yanks on YouTube doing their own thing from brand new! They're not even using OE parts but US aftermarket stuff.....
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

Bah!!!! The winter potholes and full-time speed bumps have finally got me.... the Fusion popped a coil spring this morning :( Thankfully as I was reversing out of my drive, and not at 50mph on the way to work.

These things happen, I know, but it's still  when they do :D

  • Had one go on my a few years ago just missed the tyre
  • Bracket on the 207 exhaust back box has rusted through and snapped. Ordered a new bracket off that there eBay for £9 delivered. Should only take 10 minutes to fit. Sorted. :)
  • I've sold my SOJC, so I'm Banger-less at the moment.
Unless I include my bikes, three of which are 40 years old and one is 25.
The running costs of them are quite low, so I'm good there. :)

Well, MoT this morning, the Fusion failed on a anti-roll bar ball joint, so another year's-worth for under £50... it's a bit unfair, if the potholes weren't so bad..... :D

    Good stuff! :)

I take it you did that yourself? How difficult is it to do the job...any special tools required?
