Stoke, sorry to hear your story, keep up the pressure don't let the bast++ds get away with it!
Just to add i have had many bangers over the years, best was a Fiat 127 I got for £50, fitted new front disks and ran it for about 3 years, sold it for £200. 4 times what I paid!
Neighbour has an old Honda Civic he paid £350 for six years ago, Tyres and a battery are all he has done to it apart from annual service and MOT.
Looks a heap, scrapes and small dents from previous owner but mechanically still fine.

Do Bangorites tend to go with 3rd party only insurance, or is it a myth that such a thing is cheaper (or even exists any more)?

Whichever is cheaper. Usually comp is cheaper.

Always had fully comp insurance.

^^^^^ this....it's mad, my 20-y-o lad has been comp both years so far, it's even cheaper for young drivers than 3rd Party.

I think it's a way of the insurers phasing out 3rd party tbh.

Both superb motors, but the Lupo has a few extra little weapons in it's arsenal
- £30 tax band.
- TDi so 65mpg
- about 80bhp so quite nippy for a little hatchback.

As much as that Golf will be superb, it's the 1.6 so it might feel a tad sluggish. That said, the interior on the Golf is far tidier than the Lupo.

Both great motors though.

Nice motor but no way is that a private sale as advertised. More like a quasi back street dealer under cover.

A lot of sales on Gumtree these days are just that. Lads who fancy earning a few extra quid tax free on the weekend, so they go round buying old cars with a month's MOT off old Mrs Pennyapple who has just decided to knock it on the head.

Buy them up, get them through an MOT with the least amount of work, sell them for x profit.
