Thanks GJ I have brought you a virtual pint would buy you a real pint, looking at a mk1 focus soon for £700 yep I know it's abit more 12 mot and lots of at jobs done, sadly do not have the time to look for more weeks for a better bargain got alot on at the moment rather pay abit more if it lasts a few years as I have looked at some real rubbish tbh.

Could have viewed a 03 Fiesta but the mot picked up an eml.

Then another Fiesta a 1.4 TDCI but was a Cat D seller again making out they did not know hhmm! on email.

Also a Golf TDI but owner had no idea on the cambelt when it was last changed despite owning it for years and sure it's been for sale a while.

As long as the cambelt hasn't actually snapped you'd just immediately replace it, factor that £200 in?

Golf Tdi struck of the possible list , saw the seller advertising it on another site with slipping clutch even after I had asked is there any issues with it yep I know many will say that.

This car search 90% of the cars have had knackered clutches and the sellers stating "oh I did not notice" yeah right LoL

Just found this wonderful thread! As a non-mechanic, what is the sensible budget for entry level into Bangernomics? £1,000? Where to start looking?!

I sold my Almera for £350. She had 134,000 on the clock and easily has another 134,000 in her. You don't even need to do oil changes on a car like that. Just top it up now and again, and use vegetable oil if you don't have anything else to hand.

Needs to tow a trailer (not caravan) and be able to do 300+ miles in a day (about 10 times a year). Reliable would be good too!!

Plenty of 2ltr TDCi Mondeos around for under a grand, and no DPF to worry about :)
