Hi Guys, got a problem and need advice please. House phones+ BB been playing up since line cange from BT to TT.Nothing changed except new router.
However, engineers said it was in excahange and did tests.
Today, got a text from TT for Engineer to come to the house, possible £129, charge if it is in house.
Just done a test with test socket at BT, took faceplate off, and phones ok, which signifies a fault in house or on the face plate itself.
Should I let engineers come, or try and replace faceplate. need to know, tried to book appointment, but busy.help please, don,t want a £129 bill if I can do it myself? who is responsible for the faceplate? Me or TT.Never happened prior to change over of providers.

The fault then lies with your internal wireing in which case BT wont touch it as it's your problem.BT are only responsible for the line UP TO & including the NTE5 master socket.anything after that, including the wireing connected to the faceplate,is the customers responsibility.
The £129 charge is levied by BT Openreach & all TT are doing is passing the charge onto you.If the fault was outside the home, then the charge would be TT's problem & thus should NOT be passed onto you, although TT always do pass it on.
And if TT say they are sending a Qube engineer, refuse that straight off as they are NOT phone engineers, they are the equivelent of PC Worlds old "The Tech Guys" & do not have the knowledge or expertise in fixing phone faults.
Basically, the repair of the line is down to you as it's after the NTE5,so yes, cancel the engineer.0 -
Hi,
As far as I'm aware you dont own the BT socket and cant alter it. I saw that on this forum I think. However whos to know if YOU have changed it? If questioned by BT just say if was previous occupier or deny all knowledge. I'm sure folk on here will say dont do that but if you are happy swapping a master socket out and dont want the £129 bill, give it a go. If you do, dont throw the old one away just in case. What I woud do is wire a new master socket in (just loose, not mounted on wall), try everything, if it works brilliant, if not swap it over and let engineer in.
Have you tried unplugging all phones, router, extensions etc so only the master is connected?0 -

Now it,s working.
Best just not phoning TT about appointment, or phoning and explaining what,s happened .?????
surely, if it,s the BT box, it,s thier responsability to change it, or repair it. Which I think I have done for them now?????0 -
Yes, the BT socket is BT's responsibility. If its working now I'd cancel appointments (if necessary) or advise them "no fault" if you are asked. Certainly don't tell them you touched the BT socket.0

Had a problem here with the line, turned out to be a faulty nt5e which the BP Openreach replaced - I understood that the whole unit is their responsibility including the standard faceplate.
I usually assume that if connected to the test socket and the proiblem is the same with two separate sets of kit, then one can be as sure as one can that the problem is not yours.
When I say two separate sets of kit, for clients I test with theirs, and then with mine, eg filter, telcable, router and lappie.
Good luck with it.........0 -

Good job I did, didn,t know there was one, until I checked TT,s webpage.:beer:0 -
When I transferred to TT i had problems with my phones and spent a great deal of time talking to India and getting texts from BT saying that there was no problwm with the system. In the end it transpired that it was the TT voicemail system that was causing the problem. I have an ansaphone on my cordless so had the TT voicemail disconnected and have had no problems since .I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

That's what I thought but still got charged £130 for them changing a 25-30 year old socket - turned out it was damp corrosion.
I phoned to complain about the charge but they insisted socket was my responsibility. Now wish I had put a complaint in writing too.
If I had realised I could have changed it myself I would have given that a go first.0
