If there are not many jobs out there

    - How come so many EE citizen are working in the UK ?
    - How come so many international students (genuine and bogus) are working in the UK ?

    - Is it because because UK employers prefer to take International students or other EU citizen ????
    - Is it because UK workforces are not competitive enough ?

Well, some people do not want to work because they can find another better alternative out there by not working ....

Is it also because a lot of companies will not interview the unemployed even if you were made redudant?

Is it also that you may be over qualified?

Is it also that you do not live local to the job?

Yes all of the above as I have heard them all.

The truth is there are about 400,000 jobs which are advertised and another 400,000 which aren't advertised.

Yes there are 2.67m unemployed people, or 9.5m if you count students, unemployed lone parents or people on sickness related benefits.

Employers usually look more favorably on people in employment, in 2007 I became unemployed and averaged about 20 job applications a day, 7 days a week and found it incredibly difficult. Eventually in desperation I started volunteering just to break the cycle and found employment soon after.

Later on I ended up working in a JCP and was shocked at the attitudes of some people, I once had a lady who refused to apply for a £40,000 a year job because it was less than the 50,000-60,000 a year she was used to. Likewise I would many graduates who thought that they were "entitled" to at least £30,000 a year as a starting salary. You are to be realistic and sometimes it helps to aim lower just to get your foot in the door or alternatively aim higher where there is less competition.

There are jobs out there is your willing to go out and look for one and yes it isn't easy but if you restrict yourselves to only using the internet your not likely to be successful quickly. I got my current job after responding to a job ad in the paper, advertising jobs for trainees, customer service advisers and performance managers. I sent my CV in with a cover letter saying I was interested in anything they considered suitable within the company and ended up as a performance manager. My company constantly recruits and often gets substandard candidates or people who set the bar too low for themselves which is a shame really.

Incidentally in the past I've gone from earning £50,000 a year to £8,000 (working in Greggs p/t on NMW) before getting my career back on track and don't have a problem doing a job even if it was just a p/t cleaning job.

    1. I've never had this problem

    2. I've dumbed down my CV if it meant getting an interview.

    3. I've always moved to where the work is.

Well, some people do not want to work because they can find another better alternative out there by not working ....

    1. Because they tend to be more flexible and hard working as they can not afford not to work.

    2. Because they don't have a choice if they want to survive in modern society.

    3. I don't believe this is the case, if anything it causes more admin work for the employer, alternatively foreign workers complain less when there is a wage cut to ensure competitiveness.

    4. I believe this is the case.

how is £67.50 too high??? I live in Essex and a bed sit here is £600-£700 a month so have no idea how people on NMW live to be honest.

You forget other benefits such as LHA and CT which people may be entitled to. Then theres CB/CTC if you have kids which tends to increase your LHA, free school meals and prescription costs.

When I've been reliant on benefits I've rented a room in a house share.

People are too picky and lack self reliance.
