There are plenty of jobs out there!

The jobcentre always say you must look for work in other areas, but other people will be too and all the people that live in that area.
That is very true. Perhaps the jobcentre thinks, that by shifting the work force from town to town - employment musical chairs - they will solve the unemployment problem:rotfl:
I had to turn down a job a couple of years ago, because it involved working 20 hours a week (4 hours a day, mornings), a round trip of eighty miles, and was paying NMW (around £5.75 PH then). The travel expenses would have been £75 per week, and I would have been leaving the house at 6.00 AM, getting back at 2.30 in the afternoon.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention. The employer wanted someone with at least five years experience on Sage Payroll, Sage line 50 accounts and office management.0 -
I'm not sure I agree with the relocation bits above. It can be easy to relocate. I have a friend who works a dumper truck/forklift etc, builds homes roads etc. When one contract is over they move onto another, from where I live this can be over 200/300 miles away Yorkshire to Brighton (my next door neighbour actually) All they do is find 'digs' usually costs around £100 per week bed breaky.
If you can find a job 200 miles away and live with your parents there is no reason why you cannot do this, you not exactly upping sticks lock stock. All you need is a suitcase with a weeks clothing and essentials. you work a week, maybe go home at weekends. Whats the problem there? Sure if you are married with kids you cannot just up sticks and move but again like my neighbour he works 3 or 4 months away down south and his wife and kids are here. I don't see him at all for months, but his wife and kids are ok, sure its not ideal but they are ok, and she seems fine. Lots of people have to work away.
Lets not get into the argument that everyone can do this, no they can't but most can.All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

The problem I would have with this is you would need to have some sort of education/experience behind you to make it worth while, no point relocation for min wage, But then around here there are plenty of jobs for grads/experienced folk, there nothing for average Joe with a few GCSE's and maybe an NVQ here or there.0 -

But that's a problem with the benefits system, surely?
It makes no sense that it's better to be unemployed than working (full time).
If you have £x in savings and that brings you above the cap, if you don't find a job (any job) then you will have to start spending your savings.
To say it's "not worth" moving for minimum wage makes me think Government support is too generous.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”

That wasn't really the angle I was thinking of, but the average Joe like me couldn't afford to move anyway.0 -
I try to be constructive, not sympathetic so I may appear to be right at the point but maybe some find this hard to accept. I'm not trying to play a 'im employed card' but life is not free, you have to get up and help yourself rather that sitting at home waiting for the oppertunity to pop up in your area. If this means simply sleeping in your car over night you have to do it to feed the kids. If you are single there is no problem. you have to struggle to keep moving forward, everytime you get hit get up an look for a way not to get hit again. If you stand for nothing, youll fall for everything. Life is hard I accept that, man I have to work till im 70 mortgage will not be paid until im 59. This country has gone to the dogs through poor management and hand outs, its crippled the economy. There are other facters too however. I have a wife and 2 grown up kids. Not had a holiday for 4 or 5 years now, just trying to pay my bills and debts, but I am doing what I have to do to keep afloat. No one will help me I have to do this myself, if it meant sleeping in my car I would have to.
Keep looking for work but maybe you will have to look further afield. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

Well if it costs a couple grand to move, even NMW pays £10k a year.
Ideally that should be worth it.
It does rely on getting a full-time position though.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
