    Morning all

Well I thought I'd lost the plot, but I've somehow also lost 1lb! :D I also walked for 40 minutes again yesterday.

Before weighing myself this morning I'd decided today was Day One and that good news has really spurred me on - I'm all fired up with determination now.

James - I like your strategy, but does your OH want the treats that you turn down? Aren't you encouraging him/her to eat unhealthily?

You are right MC - sugar is addictive and I am definitely an addict. The trouble as I see it is that it never really goes away. In the past I have managed to go without sugary food for 12 months or more, but then lapse back into bad habits. This has resulted in the past with me yoyo dieting which I think has been pretty bad for my health in the long term. This is one reason that I am avoiding starting a particular diet but trying to change my eating habits. Just as some alcoholics practice controlled drinking rather than complete abstinence, I would like to have control over my sugar intake.

However, I do know that this is easier said than done and I am struggling with it at the minute :o Maybe you are right to avoid temptation?

Fred - 2 and a half hours walking for me today plus 1 hour Boxercise.

    Welcome Misseypootle :)

It IS about changing one's eating habits rather than starting this or that diet. It is for the long-term i.e. the rest of one's life! In other words it's a question of finding something that you can live with permanently.

We had a nice meal out on Sunday at a lovely old pub in the Essex countryside. I had filo prawns for starter, then pan-fried salmon fillet. There were new potatoes and I ate one of them. We decided between us that we'd go for starter rather than be tempted by dessert.

I agree with vixarooni that anything that gets people into church is good, but it's the same diehard members who seem to go to 'cafe church' rather than newbies, which isn't the idea.

I find it so, so hard with those people at church. Many of them *should* do something about their weight, 2 at least of the older women are late-onset Type II diabetics (I'm doing my darndest to avoid becoming diabetic having been warned that I am at risk!) One of them, I know, an ex-nurse, both knees replaced, I think she eats a more or less Caribbean diet and I'm told that contains a lot of fattening items! Oooops! Another one was quite downright to me when I mentioned the dreaded word 'exercise'. She goes to tai chi twice a week but 'only for the social aspects'. Come to think of it, a lot of the women who go to aqua-aerobics where I go seem to go 'for the social aspects', treat it as an occasion for gossip - I can hear their voices as well as the trainer and the disco music! I go there for exercise and nothing else, and when I get in the pool I move, I don't stand in a little gaggle with others gossiping. If that makes me out to be anti-social then so be it.

Anyway, this coming Sunday it's the last service our present minister is taking, at another of the 3 churches she's been responsible for. The plan is to have a service at our church then everybody go to the other one for a 'shared lunch' i.e. everybody take a plate of food to share. I was asked on Sunday evening if we'd be going to that. I explained that this idea of sharing food with others is difficult for us. 'Oh there'll be plenty there!' I explained that that isn't the point. Eventually, DH and I can take our own and not have to share with others. Well, that's fine. We'll make up a picnic for ourselves. We have 2 1-litre plastic boxes, Tupperware-type things, and if it's a day like today - hot and sunny - we'll make up a nice salad and take some fruit and bottled fizzy water. DH has already jibbed at the idea of our cooking organic chicken pieces 'to share'. No way! We'll eat organic cooked chicken, we don't share it.

The last time I went to a meal at church it was the weekend DH was in hospital. They thought they were being kind, I wouldn't have to bother to get anything for myself. I feel so awful, because they do mean it kindly. Lovingly-prepared plates of sandwiches all labelled with what fillings they had. I ate far too many sandwiches i.e. toooo much carbs even though I didn't partake of the crisps and sausage-rolls which were also on offer. Again about the temptation - there's a younger woman who is on and off the Cambridge diet and she admitted to me that she has psychological problems i.e. an eating disorder. I saw her pick up 3 sausage-rolls - yes, 3! They think they're being so kind, but really, they're being cruel. On that occasion I was asked if I wanted to stay for dessert. 'Will it be sugar-free?' 'Oh no'. I made the excuse that I couldn't wait, had to go off to the hospital to visit DH.

Today we had mushrooms poached in a little oil with balsamic vinegar, one slice of our local baker's GI bread. Ham salad for lunch with an orange to follow. Toooo hot for anything else.

...then take it home to the OH so it doesn't go to waste

...but it DOES go to waste if it's something you know is bad for your OH i.e if it's bad for you why isn't it bad for him/her?

Fred could you put me down for 2 hours walking today, plus 1 hour Bodypump and 1 hour Aquafit today.

Feel like I am getting back into the exercise, but I am absolutely shattered tonight :) Think an early night is called for.

I've mastered the turning down food at work situation. Accept it and say "thank you very much, I'll have that after/with my lunch.

Pop it in my top drawer and "forget" to eat it with lunch (by this time, everyone has forgotten I have it) then take it home to the OH so it doesn't go to waste.

Obviously only works with stuff recieved in the morning but I;ve found thats when a majority of people bing it in.

I too was surprised at the reaction I used to get when politely declining sometimes, you'd have thought I'd kicked their child or something.

I have been known to leave cake on the top of the desk hidden out of my eye sight (and others) until everyone's gone home and put it in the bin :o .

What drives me mad is people who bring in boxes of cakes for everyone then get desperate later in the day because they don't want to take any home.

    Hi everybody,

Thanks for the charts last week and the "congrats" to me.

The last week was a mixed situation; ill-health, satisfactory dietary management with some biking/gardening that was difficult due to being under par. Todays weight is the same as last Wednesday.

Various people have different body systems.

Some guys are allergic to some food.Others ain't.

    See you that?
