I think it's hard to refuse food people have made when offered without them taking offence.

Fred, I wish I could say that this is the reason I don't refuse the food brought into work. Unfortunately it is plain and simply lack of control - if it is there I will eat it :o

Margaretclare - I agree with Vix, life is too short to miss out on something that you enjoy because of food, especially if it is just once a month.

But I don't like it and I don't want it. I no longer enjoy things that are sooo sweet. I've more or less kicked the sugar addiction and, a bit like a recovering alcoholic or any other addiction, I don't want to risk starting it again. No one realises that sugar is an addiction, and they wouldn't dream of sitting a recovering alcoholic down in front of booze for an hour and expect them to partake as they felt like it.

We do go to church, but the idea of 'cafe church' may be a bit of a gimmick. Methodists seem to be quite keen on this idea of bringing food to share - there's a service next week with 3 churches joining in and 'bring a plate to share' for lunch. We've decided to go to the service when they've all finished lunch.

Today we're having a treat - Sunday lunch at an old traditional pub in the Essex countryside. We'll go to church this evening instead.

I think any way of getting people into church is probably a good thing. Mainly because i would hate to see churches disappear in the future, the buildings go to ruin and we lose a part of our culture.

I don't go because i am not interested in what the church has to say to me, but i do find comfort when i go into my local Cathedral. I may even ask him to sort out my north/south/career problem!! ;)

    Hello everyone
I was just pondering over rejoining weight watchers AGAIN!! for what must be the 5th time over the years and fell upon your friendly thread. I have lost weight, gained weight, lost weight and so on over the years and really need to get something sorted again now. In the past I have been to the gym, swimming dieted and have now stopped doing everything, Not sure why but this is how life goes sometimes.

So I thought I would ask you guys in your opinions which way forward would you go. WW, SW or gym or DIY healthy eating and a bit of swimming and walking. Really don't know which way to jump as I don't really want to spend loads of money again on WW but definitely need some guidance and motivation to get me going on the right track. Saying that just had a quick look at Slimming World and it all appears too good to be true, can you really eat endless amounts of certain foods??? Never done this one so maybe it would a change from ww. Anybody doing SW, can you let me know what you think to it. Whats all this Sin business, very odd!

Well done to you all, just been reading your stories, you are all very inspiring! Keep up the good work.
    xx

Hi Misseypootle - welcome to the thread, great user name!

Whatever you choose to do really has to be your decision, but there are lots of people here doing lots of different things. I'm [STRIKE]supposed to be [/STRIKE]doing WW online and I've previously done SW and they do both work if you follow the plan.

Just to pick up on your point about being able to eat a lot if you do SW - you can eat lots of food, however it's not quite as simple as it sounds. For example, you can eat a large jacket spud with a whole tin of beans, but lots of foods can only be eaten in small, measured amounts they call healthy extras - these include breakfast cereal, bread, milk and cheese.

Current medical advice is to eat less and exercise more, and that certainly works, so maybe that would be a good option for you.

This thread is great support, and it gives you a purpose, something to aim for each week, which is what you get from attending a class - difference is, it's FREE! :D

I love Sw and I personally wish I had found it before I did.
SW works for me when I stick to it.

You are right MC - sugar is addictive and I am definately an addict. The trouble as I see it is that it never really goes away. In the past I have managed to go without sugary food for 12 months or more, but then lapse back into bad habits. This has resulted in the past with me yoyo dieting which I think has been pretty bad for my health in the long term. This is one reason that I am avoiding starting a particular diet but trying to change my eating habits. Just as some alcoholics practice controlled drinking rather than complete abstinance, I would like to have control over my sugar intake.

However, I do know that this is easier said than done and I am struggling with it at the minute :o Maybe you are right to avoid temptation?

Fred - 2 and a half hours walking for me today plus 1 hour Boxercise.

    Welcome Misseypootle :)

  • I've mastered the turning down food at work situation. Accept it and say "thank you very much, I'll have that after/with my lunch.

Pop it in my top drawer and "forget" to eat it with lunch (by this time, everyone has forgotten I have it) then take it home to the OH so it doesn't go to waste.

Obviously only works with stuff recieved in the morning but I;ve found thats when a majority of people bing it in.

I too was surprised at the reaction I used to get when politely declining sometimes, you'd have thought I'd kicked their child or something.
