  • I think once u get into ketosis you no longer feel hungry.

Not as hungry, but this is mainly due to the fact that low carb diets tend to keep insulin levels lower which leads to more stable blood glucose levels.

If you haven't done a low carb diet before then you will get a lot of cravings while your body adjusts. If you can stick to it though the weight will come off.

Dont be fooled by super fast weightloss in the first few days, this is because your body will lose a lot of water weight. After a couple of weeks the weightloss will be strady as long as you are3 strict.

    Hi Beanie,

Your allowance is 15 syns p/day, and they recommend the 10 for the 1st week or so - really as a way to get your body used to the plan, and for you to adjust to having less of the sweet/fatty/carb foods.

If you can adjust your other days to have less than the 10, you'll end up recouping anyway. On weeks where I knew I was going to be eating out/socialising, I used to try to work out my plan having as few syns as possible all week, to accommodate the indulgent day. They refer to it as flexi-syning at SW, but it's not recommended to be done as a regular thing IYSWIM.

I would think if you've been within plan all week, you probably won't be affected for WI tomorrow anyway. Just stick to the plan all next week, and try to do some exercise if possible, and you'll find you'll still lose the following week too.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home

Does anyone else notice that the more they eat the more they lose?

Is this just a case of your metabolism being kept up at a higher rate?
  • Hi everyone! I have lost just over a stone.....but it has been painfully slow as I have quite a few stone to go lol It has been up and down the last few months. I am really going to put a bit of effort into it now, esp now I have found this forum :) I have just made myself a lovely healthy chicken salad to bring into work tomorrow. Here we go lol :):)

I've recently been reading up on this because I've not lost anything for months despite being good and am starting to get desperate to lose. (Excuse me while I get my Eric hat on :D)

From the info on the myfitnesspal boards there are 2 figures that you need to know to help you identify the number of calories that you should be eating.

"1) TDEE or Total Daily Energy Expenditure.
This is the amount of calories you burn all day.
From before you wake up in the morning and pee to the time you lay your head down at night to sleep and into the night.
One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing a post on the forum or on someones Diary "Ugh! I feel sooo guilty because I went over calories today!" when the person went over a few cals over a 40% cut from TDEE.

Knowing TDEE allows you to understand that anything above TDEE is a surplus and you will "eventually" gain weight.
Anything at TDEE you maintain weight.
Anything below TDEE you lose weight to an extent. (see BMR)

    2) BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate or RMR Resting Metabolic Rate.
If you were in a coma and in the hospital, the doctors would feed you your BMR in calories.
This ensures you have enough nutrients for vital organs to function.
    "

You can calculate your TDEE here:

    http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html

and on the same site there is also a BMR calculator.

To maintain your weight you should eat your TDEE calorie value, to lose weight it's recommended that you eat 15 - 20% lower than your TDEE as long as it's above your BMR number.

If you exercise you burn more calories so need to eat those back too.

You can read more about it here:

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/567092--read-this-figuring-out-your-calorie-goals

I started eating more calories last week and have to admit I find it difficult to eat more than normal - I'm trying to have more healthy but higher calorie things like nuts etc.

    Hi all

Sorry I'm not around much at the moment, my Mum died on Thursday - the day after we got back to the UK - and we've been catching up with family and friends including our daughter in the north. I'm going to be busy for the next couple of weeks as well while I make the funeral arrangements and empty her house.

The [STRIKE]diet[/STRIKE] eating regime hasn't been easy, it feels like we've been travelling since the 15th and not really in control, which was reflected on the scales with a 2lb gain. :(

I start every day with good intentions, but things don't go according to plan - yesterday for example, we spent hours at Mum's house searching for her will, and suddenly it was nearly 2 o'clock and I was starving. Mum's been in hospital for ages and there's no food in her house so we ended up buying bacon and making bacon butties. Then last night my best friend had invited us to dinner and it's difficult to turn down food that someone has taken the trouble to prepare.

Anyway, today is Day One again - OH and I are going to carry on sorting out the house but we're prepared this time, we're taking food with us.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

    Catch you soon,

    LL :)

Sorry to hear about your mum lois, look after yourself x

Fred Great post fred. My tdee is 1927. My BMR is 1402. Are these numbers not a little high? Although its 2000 calories recommended for a a woman isn't it? I've just noticed that over time, the more i eat the more i seem to lose, and i definitely wont put weight on over this over eating period. The less i eat, the more likely i am to put weight on. I presumed this might be because when i am always eating my metabolism is kept at a quicker rate and therefore its going through me a lot quicker.
I have almost certainly lost weight from cutting out some of my carb intake. I try to buy bagel's instead of a loaf of bread. My alcohol intake has gone down a lot too.

I've always wondered how all of my size 8 skinny friends can constantly pack away chocolate/crisps/alcohol and not put on any weight! They are always constantly hungry too, and the more i eat, the more hungrier i become so perhaps the best method is just to eat a lot!

    Interesting stuff!

So sorry about your mum Lois. As beanie said you have too much on to worry about losing weight too, Making sure you get to eat is probably more important if you are that busy!

I have lost -2lb this week.
