Hi can someone advise me about the graphs on food focus please. On the daily meal charts where they split fat, carbohydrates and protein, what sort of percentage should be carborhydrate and protein please - obviously fat should be as low as possible but not sure about the other 2. Thanks

Hi, the scheme I'm following suggests 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat.

If you don't eat enough fat your body can't produce the things it needs for maintenance. This is quite a useful summary:

Fred, have you started the C25K?

No not yet - it might be a few weeks/months before I get a chance but I'm hoping to get things in place so when I get the chance I can just get on with it.

This blows out of the window the whole 'received wisdom' about low-fat dieting as an ideal to aim for.

  • Well my plan for going to Body Balance this morning, didn't get in from work till after 2 am, so overslept :-( Still I have been 4 days this week so I suppose 1 day missed isn't the end of the world. I will do my 30 day shred later instead.

    Hi Guys,

Well I've been really good for the last week or two. Lots of exercise and healthy eating :) I've been struggling to get back into the 5:2 diet as I've just been feeling so ill, and cold and tired lately that my willpower has just gone out of the window! I start off well each day but don't seem to be able to manage it at the moment :o I've now decided to do the other version of the diet in the meantime, which is a 16 hour daily fast. It's going really well so far. No results on the scales yet, but then it's been that dreaded time of the month, so hopefully I'll get a good result next week.

I've also been trying to get more sleep again (an ongoing goal, lol!) using an app on my iPad. It's actually working and I've been averaging 7 hours a night, then last night I slept for 8.5 hours!!!!! I'm used to 6 hours a night, usually interrupted by the little one, so now it feels like I do nothing but sleep, lol. There definitely needs to be more hours in the day if I'm going to keep this up!

Fred, is that The Zone diet? I'm sure I've read about those ratios before. How are you finding it?

No I'm doing the Eat more to weigh less scheme. It's not a diet as such it's a lifestyle change and I'm really happy with it - I'm losing weight slowly (I'd plateau'd for months before starting it), I don't get cravings any more and it's completely changed my relationship with food.

I'm not very good at explaining it but basically you calculate your calories used on an online calculator and set a target of 10% less to lose weight, you then set your % for carbs, fat and protein and eat as cleanly as you can ie not too many processed foods etc.

Every 4-6 weeks you do a metabolic reset - (which is basically eating the number of calories you use and not the 10% less) as this stops your metabolism reseting to the lower rate.

Because I'd eaten so few calories for so long I started with a metabolic reset for 12 weeks which effectively meant I ate more than double the number of calories I had been and didn't put on any weight.

It's amazing how much better my skin and nails are and I'm not so tired since doing it too. As I mentioned it's changed my relationship with food, and I don't have cravings now. But I can also have treats etc if I want to.

A lot of people lift weights as part of the program but at the moment I'm not able to fit that in so the weight I've lost is down to food alone.

As I said this is more a lifestyle change so my weight loss is slow - probably far slower than many people would like - but it's going down and I'm happy so that's all that matters, but if you want to lose a stone in a month this is not the diet for you.
