How many clicks before I get to it? I have gave up and gone back to the one I know works.

    Comments on the new layout:
    - Avatars seem less prominent, perhaps decrease the green padding above and below them so they appear larger?
-In general, for a fixed width design I prefer the information above the post than to the left of it [as it's the width that's limited not the height]
-There are no graphical errors for me, and the thanks button updates instantly.
    - I like the new sticky icon a lot
    - I agree that the hashtag should return next to the individual post number.
    - If possible, perhaps place the 'Newbie alert' badge between the usertitle [ e.g. Deliciously Dedicated Diehard MoneySaving Devotee] and the postcount, using the entire height of the green band? That would definitely give it prominence.
    - I think that the usertitle is given too much width at the moment, personally I would prefer it if it was on two lines if necessary.
    - The top bar is too tall, is should be the minimum height required to house the information.

    A couple of general comments:
    - If the green 'entered' tick in the competitions forum could be made slightly larger it would make navigation easier.
    - A search box above or beneath the auto-generated Main Site links would be useful.
    - As much as i'm sure you'll hate this, having an option to turn off the far right column would be great, I check the site and the forum separately, get the email and know the forum etiquette so, for me, there is no need to have that bar taking up space.

Sorry for the long post, in general I prefer the new layout.

    Thanks, Alex

iv never used the stretchy version btw; always been in the compact fixed width mode - so my comparison is bwteen the regular fixed widt and the newbie one and this seems just right

As you scroll down the thread, I am really not keen that half of the page is blank with fat white page either side of the thread.

I also dislike the user details above the post - I used to ignore them at the side, now I have to read them as I read each post.

I was enjoying the new fixed width version, but don't like this latest update. Sorry.

I'm not too keen on the user details being at the top of each post, either. It's irritating and it makes it difficult to see the flow of the posts, I think. Like the previous poster, I too ignore most of the user details at the moment as they are at the side of the post, and I like it that way.

I'll be sticking with the stretchy layout if that's possible.

Why are you re-designing it anyway?

    3) The join date/posts/thanked data could be moved into a user's signature area (and then could even be switched off in User CP)
o no pleas don't do that

It would be a nice idea to offer us an option to switch off the data just as we switch off the avis but if you move all that into our signature panel, then weher do we have our signature? The signature has limits as it is.

The second best feature is the thanks since it has a low profile, goes without saying the first being an overhead for picture and vital statistics, leavng enough space for post.

Can I ask when you say current version are you talking about fixed or stretchy - as I dont see how the new version can show less than the prior fixed version

Loosing the space to each posts "header" eats vertical real estate, hence less posts on screen - I know the previous poster ID and stats used space, but it seems that more space is lost to the post "header."

I'd second Fermi's suggestion about relocating the breadcrumb trail.

I'll be returning to the stretchy version - rather than huge amounts of white space at both sides of the screen. (approx 20% of my screen width is blank, even worse on longer pages below the right sidebar.

I've changed the wording as I wasn't advocating cutting down on the signature area, just that putting it with the signature could allow it to be switched off in User CP.

thanks One-Eye, it is a really good idea (that's why I believe it is worth protesting :snow_grin) but the signatures' format would be spoilt
  • I also don't like the wasteful blank space down both sides of the screen that makes you have to scroll further to get to the end of the page...
