Happy New Year ladies! Anyone else suddenly struggling to believe it's THIS year?

I've been quite a busy girl actually, have proofed all my invites and am picking them up tonight, I hope they are all ok. Unfortunately they will be a bit of a mish mash because we extended the guest list but there we go :rotfl:. I ordered my sign for the top table, it has our names at the top, says 'Just Married' underneath and then our wedding date. We will almost have it as our place setting and I thought it would look good for the photos.

I also bought a personalised hanger to put my dress on, again for the photos in the morning. It's white with silver wire which is shaped into my new name and wedding date. Hopefully it should be here in a few days so if people want to see it I will happily post a pic?

I also post on a local wedding forum and was asking about when to have dress alterations done and someone panicked me by saying I should already have an appointment booked! Then that started me panicking about my weight and whether I will manage to get in the dress as I know I have put on a few lbs since I got it. Managed to find a local seamstress who came to see me and the dress on new years day and she was LOVELY, said 100% I can wear the dress, if I don't lose enough weight she will just made a new modesty panel and if I do then she will use the existing one (She is adding some sparkly and a pocket/attachement to hold the ribbon bow and train button). She is also going to trim the boning down so it doesn't dig in under my arms :D.

I tried it on with my shoes this time and the length is absolutely perfect so should save myself some money there! She is also going to make my shrug/wrap and will make it so it covers my tattoos but doesn't cover any of the detail on the dress. I loved having it on again, it suits my shape perfectly and I just can't wait for OH to see me in it .

Have also arranged for the lady making my fudge wedding favours to make my reception sweet cones, she normally charges £1.50 a cone but said as I buy a lot from her she will do them for £1 each if I have 50, thats about what I expect to pay to do it but less hassle, yay!

Have to pay honeymoon balance within the next 3 weeks and lots of people to arrange meetings with. Have also got one with registry office on 17th to get our 'choice' pack to choose vows, must also visit jewellers to discuss wedding rings.....my wedding mojo is on its way back ;)

Cate - sorry to hear about the best man issues, my OH had picked his best mate but he can never get hold of him and he's done nothing about organising a stag do so I will be having some words.

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

Glad you've got your wedding mojo back jtr! :D

Things have been moving along nicely here, got most of the daytime RSVPs back now so just need to make and send the evening invitations.

Have a slight dilemma re the guest list which I want you girls' advice on, but don't have time to write it all out now, so watch this space! :rotfl:

I just applied for my new passport in my married name - EEK scary!! We have both our honeymoon and our summer holiday booked in my new name, it is so weird. I think it will be extra strange as, being a teacher, my last name is used all day every day - so it will feel really weird!

Jtr I know what you mean about weight - I was losing weight before Christmas but then I fell off the wagon about two weeks before the big day and during December I managed to gain half a stone :eek::eek::eek::eek: So need to deal with that. I know I will never be a thin bride :( but I can do my best to be a pleasantly curvy one rather than a disgusting beached whale one....

Anyway must dash. Hopefully this thread will get nice and busy again as our month is VERY close!! :D

Wow! Looks like everyone's plans are coming along well!!! I had a bit of a panic when 2013 arrived, realising that April is only 12 weeks away and there's so much to do! So have been busy getting the last of my invites out and starting to make place cards etc.
Got so many DIY ideas I want to do but back to school on Monday, so don't know when I'll find the time!!!

What's everyone doing for honeymoons?? This is really stressing me out! Everyone expects you to go somewhere expensive and exotic but the OH hates the sun and for him my dream honeymoon in Maldives or Mexico would be a nightmare! Also, being off only at half term means I'd struggle to get a week away after the wedding.
We're thinking of a lovely log cabin in a forest somewhere in UK then a holiday in the Summer hols but not a clue where! Everyone keeps asking me where we're going and it's doing my head in now!!! Lol!

We're going to Mexico (Cancun) so not very helpful for you!

I'm a teacher too and getting married in the middle of the Easter holiday so we are only having 6 nights on honeymoon :( but it will still be amazing! However, we are going to California in the summer and as it will be less than 6 months after our wedding we are going to take our marriage certificate with us and treat it as another honeymoon :rotfl:

Have you considered anywhere in the USA maybe? Might work if your almost-hubby doesn't want a beach holiday...

Your UK break after the wedding idea sounds brilliant :) don't worry about what anyone else says! Most often they are just making conversation!

Have started getting RSVP's back too it's so exciting lol
On a planning note we have shortlisted a band :D
A big thank you to all those who post on the forum and make it a worthwhile place!!!:j

Thank you! And apologies for the rant before!! With seeing family over Christmas it's all people have been asking about and it's e one thing we can't decide on!! I'm kinda thinking now about the log cabin straight after the wedding, as ours is the same day as yours, so we'll have 4 days away then back to school planning!! And am now thinking New York in the Summer! It's somewhere we both want to go to and can hopefully use wedding money to pay for treats when there!!

    Thanks again x x

Oh honeymoon plans are nearly as exciting as wedding plans!!!

I work as a school nurse and get the school holidays off also. We are getting married in Cyprus in the Easter holidays. We will be there for two weeks but are having a separate honeymoon also. My h2b has family in Cyprus and we aren't treating it as our honeymoon as so many family and friends will be there that we want to utilise the time with them. Once in a lifetime opportunity to be together on holiday!!!
We are honeymooning in the 6weeks. We wanted to really go for it before we start a family etc. So we are going back to L.A, New York and adding on Honolulu, Maui and Boston too. My h2b works away and we only see each other for a few hours a week so felt 3weeks in Hawaii and America was well deserved!!

Does anyone have any tips for honeymoon upgrades or free special touches? You see it in the movies but i never hear of people really getting them?

SEXYBABES1982-a log cabin sounds very romantic. If that is what you both would like to do, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It is your honeymoon. :j

DAISIEGG- I have neer been to Mexico but it is somewhere i have always hoped to visit.:j

I have received all my RSVP now. Very happy with numbers and our financial situation.

I can't believe H2B and I have been engaged a year!! Lovely news this Christmas when my cousin got engaged!! It really is catching hee hee.

My sister is currently planning my Hen party in London. It is all a big secret but i'm not very good with suprises!!!

I have loved every minute of this planning and can't wait to be married to my amazing man. I really thought i would be a stressed bridezilla but it has been a streamline and exciting process. I wish i worked in the wedding industry with all the beautiful brides to be!!

Cyprus wedding is basically sorted. Just need to send out invites for the wedding reception here and room decorations which should be easy.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and fabulous New Year!!! In 4months time we will all be married happily ever after!!!

Well done ladies your plans sound fabulous. Hope all continues smoothly!!:T

Well now Christmas is over this thread has got busy :D You all seem to have things well in hand!

Eeeeeep! My dress is finally being delivered tomorrow, it had been delayed at customs over Christmas. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time :rotfl: If I'm like this over the dress wonder what I'll be like on the day!

Regarding honeymoons, we're getting married in Las Vegas and will be staying another 2 weeks as our honeymoon. Has got lots of fun things to do and see planned when we're there, just saving up as much as we can so we don't have to worry about money at all while we there.

I'm expecting we'll get an email from our organiser in Vegas in the next few weeks, will need to finalise our music choices and any other extras we want. We also need to decide where we will be eating after the ceremony.

I'm not planning to change anything over to my married name until after the wedding, I don't want to worry about things not coming through in time.

Invitations for the reception will be made up this and next weekend and sent out ASAP. Since we decided not to do the fancy invitations for Vegas I'm considering making up a basic invitation on Vistaprint for the ceremony as people will still need to know the details. The other option is to just write to the people who live further away, hmmm dilemma! I'm edging towards writing to people as it would only be for 3 guests, everyone else can be told face to face. Also if we did do invitions, I'd want the fancy ones :A

Oooo and I get to pick my ring! I don't know if I ever posted that I was worried what OH had chosen? I mentioned to OH that it was 'traditionally' the groom's job to pay for the rings so he went off and came back saying he'd sorted it. Cue me being panicked about what he'd chosen as I have short fat fingers and can't wear anything too wide. His parents were going to pass on their rings as they don't wear them, I don't know what they are like but now they have started wearing them again so we have to go and get our own... Yay, panic over :T

Anyway at the minute my to do list looks a bit like this, kind of in order of which needs to be done soonest.
    • Try on wedding dress, book in for fitting and alterations if needed
    • Assemble reception invitations and send out
    • Decide if having invitations for wedding and make them if required
    • Buy Wedding rings
    • Finishing making brooch bouquet
    • Buy boxes for favours
    • Finalise centrepiece decorations, source and buy other materials as required.
    • Finalise details with planner in Vegas; music, photography etc
    • Book hair and make up for wedding
    • Book cake for wedding
    • Book cake for reception
    • Book restaurant for wedding meal
    • Book hair cut for month before wedding
    • Book casino tables for reception
    • Buy and make up bridesmaid gifts
    • Buy guestbook

I'm sure this isn't exhaustive and I'll think some more things later on! There is a lot I/we have left to do but I'm not really panicking yet, although ask me again when we go less than 12 weeks to go.

Eek massive post, sorry :o Must be waffling with nerves about the dress tomorrow! Hope everyone else's planning is still going smoothly xx

skoobie - your dress!! EXCITING!! you will have to let us know what it's like :D I hope you love it...

Is anyone else getting TERRIFIED? I really am. I'm terrified about the day but in a bizarre way I'm also scared about being married! no idea why as I have been desperate to get married for years... I am scared about losing my name, I am scared about being all grown up, and the fact that everyone just assumes I will immediately start popping out babies. And the stupid thing is I have totally perpetuated that anyway, as I have always been despearate to start a family early - it's only now that it is actually getting close that I am terrified! My grandparents recently were at a craft fair and bought a load of baby bibs...I asked who they were for, as they don't know anyone with a baby, and they just said "Oh...we're just going to keep hold of them"!!!

Anyway....trying to put that aside, it is time to get back on the To Do List wagon! So here is mine...

[*]Arrange dress fittings for me - this will be 6 weeks before the wedding
[*]Book dressmaker to do slight adjustments on two of the BM dresses - must do this ASAP, in fact, I should contact them both on FB to try and arrange a time. Will do that as soon as I have finished this post!
[*]Sort BM shoes - have only got one pair so far. My sister is difficult as she has titchy feet and needs a Size 2. Argh!
[*]Sort out my undies - want to lose some weight first
[*]Make the top tier of wedding cake - wish I hadn't said I'd do this
[*]Book hair and make-up trials - must do soon...
[*]Practise making biscuit favours and, eventually, actually make them!
[*]Try to find scatter pearls (not essential but would like them!) - can't be bothered anymore :rotfl:
[*]Do gift list - have set one up with John Lewis, will go there next weekend with OH to add things on.
[*]Make evening invitations and send - must check we actually have enough stuff left to make them. Seeing my mum today so will discuss with her then!
[*]Chase RSVPs - only waiting to hear from two of OH's workmates, will get him to nag next week
[*]Do table plan - as soon as all daytime RSVPs are in I can do this
I'm sure I must be forgetting things!
I have my shoes and jewellery. I bought a gorgeous pearl necklace for my sister's BM present in the sales. I will get some jewellery for the other two BMs nearer the time - I have a money off voucher for Ernest Jones that becomes valid at the end of January and I'm planning to use that.
      What am I forgetting?!
