Cheapest cheese? Where from?

'Cos grated cheese can be a bit bland what i've been doing to make butties is mix it with other things, i've whizzed onions and garlic sausage, but then thinking of the amount of fat in the cheese i've cooked and whizzed butter beans which are pretty tasteless but full of fibre and pans it out. So i'll mix a vitalite tub full of the mixture that will last most of the week

forgot to say this is NOT truly cheese but i have it in my freezer (mature) stuff it is bland but ok for butties and pizzas

The prices are good. But as someone else has said they add potato starch to grated cheese so it beats the purpose of cheese.

I store blocks of cheese in freezer and use just for cooking. If it's going in a dish to bake in the oven, I grate it frozen then re-wrap the cheese in clingfilm and put back in freezer. I keep fresh ginger in freezer too and grate that frozen as well.

the odd thing i found recently is that i bought asda mozzarella, smart price mozzarella and extra special mozzarella and i found that the sp lasted longer than the normal and when i tried the es it actually didn't taste of anything so the sp was the tastiest and creamiest. mind you i do have a cold but i don't think it would affect it that much.
the lake district cheese is nice and £2. the cathedral city isn't on as good an offer any more (unless you got to tesco) but i do have three blocks and it does have a long date on it (3 months) don't know about freezing it but i think since it has sufficient fat content it should work. asda cheddar is good and that's on 2 for £4.

If you like extra mature cheddar Pilgrims is reduced to £2.24 for 400g (discrepency on tesco site saying 350g so may need to double check) and there is a 30p coupon on the coupons thread making it £1.96

And very tasty it is too.. nom nom nom

Although for things like cheesy toast or things that cheese gets put on top to cook then I prefer a less mature cheese, as the more mature cheese always seems to let out far more fat during cooking.

Hiya op, did you find your cheap cheese?

Popped into costco yesterday so got price list,

The cheese comes in two blocks Ministrel Mild White Chedder (small block) £3.79 per KG or £3.69 per KG (big block).

They also have the following:
* Muture white of the above at £4.29 per KG,
* Ministrel Red Leicester £3.99 per KG,
* Pilgrims Choice Extra Mature Vintage Chedder £5.69 per KG (works out almost as the same as the offer mentioned by SB above),
* Ford Farm Coastal Mature Cheddar £6.19 KG,
* Ford Farm Coastal Vintage Cheddar £6.19 per KG,
* Balderson 3 year Canadian Cheddar £5.49 per KG,
* Grated mild white Cheddar is £5.89 for 1.5KG,
* A 24 pk of Cheestrings for £5.69.

Also had Mozzarella blocks and grated as well as cheese slices.

If you can't find someone you know with a costco card maybe a MSE member could alow you to tag along with them so you don't actually have to sign up?

OR you could look in the reduced section of your supermarket - bought decent sized blocks for 24p and froze them

Went to Asda and they had run out of catherdral city. Just bought Asda smartprice though. Do costco charge to join? How much is it? Can any normal person join?

The only way that a normal person can join isto get a member to give them an additional card which costs at the moment £14.40 (inc. VAT), a member's card costs I think (£24 inc. VAT). The additional card expires the same time as the member's card - even if you have not had it for 4 months or even used it for that matter.

A member can also take in two guests at no cost (alot cheaper for you as you get what you want with out the commitment).

Check out their occupations list or call them as they do pretty much let anyone join unlike others.
