Don't let the b*ggers get you down

Thanks GG, it seems to be getting harder these days. I haven't read RDPD, although the author sounds like a bit of a character!

I have taken a small positive step this evening and emailed the head teacher of my local primary school to ask about work experience. I had actually been putting this off for a week because of my fears that they'll tell me where to go :o After all, what's the worst they can say? Some schools must say yes, or we'd never get any new teachers!

This link says there is lot of demand for school teachers.

Morning Ed. I hope you are successful with the local PS, however just to be aware they may have a few student placements on the go currently therefore please don't be too disheartened if they are unable to offer anything in the immediate now.....bearing in mind only 7 weeks until end of term.

You may have already looked into this, however any school will require you to have undertaken a PVG Scheme disclosure (replacement for disclosure Scotland - even if you have a DS certificate you will still require to undertake the new certification) this can be quite costly -£58 or thereabouts.

You are doing absolutely the right thing by seeking experience opportunities, there is no such thing as too much and the more breadth of experience, the better!

Looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Thanks NP - I don't think it would be realistic to start the PGDE before next year - so my timescales aren't overly tight. My only deadline is getting at least a week in before December (when the deadline for applications falls).

I am also applying for some volunteer tutoring experience (training kicks off in June if my application is accepted). It is with older kids (young teens), but I figure it all looks good?

This morning I have paid another £9.51 into Zopa to round myself up to the next £10 loan. One of the annoying things about Zopa is the fact that borrowers are free to return capital whenever they like without penalty. My lender head says 'boo!' to this, but my MFW head says 'good for them' :)

Quick update - my local primary school are happy to have me once I join PVG :)

Only one problem, they want me to come in on a weekly basis (as opposed to for a week or two), as it's better for their planning (and probably gets the kids less excited as their routine gets disrupted).

No problem with this, but I'll need to see if my boss is open to some flexibility. Don't get me wrong, I know I moan about my downtime at work, but the stuff I *do* do is useful. Hopefully we can reach a compromise!

Hope you can work something out Ed, Mr AJM loved his placements and confirmed he wanted to go into teaching.

Thanks AJM, is he on a course now?

Will need to talk to my boss today, meetings have got in the way so far.

Mrs E made the excellent suggestion that I could use annual leave days to trial volunteering, so that I don't end up changing my hours to my detriment and end up realising that teaching isn't for me. As well as being eminently sensible, I think that my boss might go for it, as it saves any immediate need to amend contracts etc. and can serve as a trial as regards me being out of the office for a day/half a day a week.

£10 into Zopa, saves me spending it on carp! :D

Have a lovely day everyone, think it's about to tip it down here.

    Hi Ed

Just catching up - you have been busy.

Good news that the boiler fix wasn't so expensive, makes it more tolerable and great news on the lottery win! (lol)

Sorry to hear about the driving test - I passed on third attempt! Good thing you have re-booked so quickly - I am sure you will be fine next time - at least you will know what to expect.

Wishing you loads of luck with the driving and with your teaching aspirations.

Thanks for popping in MCI - it has been an eventful few months! Sometimes I think I forget how much happens because I'm naturally quite impatient :) It's one of the main reasons I post here actually, nice to have a record of triumphs and tragedies...

I don't know if I so much have teaching aspirations as teaching interest at the moment, but it's all good. Boss is fine in principle with any required changes, all very polite and productive.

Just a couple of hours left at work and then home for a jog
