    David,

Thanks for taking the time to post, but I don't have any issue with the service provided by your company.

Nobody likes to pay a £700 bill (even if they owe it fair and square) ;)

Oh c@rp - Mrs E has locked me in!

    *Edit:

I can't believe that not one of you sent help! :rotfl:

I made good use of my extra hour indoors and called SP. The account is now back to normal, although the DD has still gone from £62 to £144. I will need to get my bahooky onto Rated People and try to find a heating engineer to come out and replace our controls to avoid this whole fiasco happening again. Also considering boiler cover, but will shop around to see if there are any reasonable offers doing the rounds.

Suit refund came through today, so less skint than yesterday. And it's Friday. And the sun's out :)
  • How on earth did you get locked in and more importantly how did you escape?

    Hi Ed,

I sent help, but they couldn't get in! ;) :rotfl:

And as for Mr Scottish Power up there ( David), it's nice they pay attention. There's a reason I'm moving from E.On *mutters darkly*

I've been MIA for a few months with the new job (working a stupid number of hours...better had get paid overtime!) and general madness and you still seem to be Zopaing. Do you think it's worth investing a tenner and seeing where it gets me?

Advice on the whole Zopa thing, please! (There could be cake in it for you!)

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Well, I'd rather be busy than at a loss for something to do :)

Zopa is a good shout for a fairly liquid investment that's easy to understand. Also, they've recently introduced a new type of lending that, while offering slightly lower rates than the original type, includes a fund to re-imburse anyone who ends up with deadbeat borrower(s).

Over the last month, the rate I'm lending at seems to have stabilised at c. 6.xx% (4.8% after tax). If there's no bad debt to consider, this means a real return of c. 4.3% after fees. That's almost 2% higher than the Santander 123 account (my other home for cash/cash like savings).

Would I use it for a tenner here and there? Probably not. I'm using it as a way to get better returns on my (personal) savings, Mrs E and I do our 'real' investing in low cost index trackers held in an ISA.

Dire driving lesson this morning, I can't believe it's only a fortnight to my next test

Tried to be productive once I got back:
    1. Went to Lidl for groceries
    2. Defrosted freezer, cleaned out and letting it dry overnight
    3. Cleaned out food cupboards, no more bags of flour from 2011
    4. Took down rubbish, recycling and fabric recycling
    5. Cleaned out fish tank
    6. HM burgers with salad for dinner
    7. £19.35 to Zopa
    8. S&S ISA DD up to £180/mth, paid fees for ISA
    9. Organised boiler cover
    10. Updated spreadsheets
    11. Polished shoes
    12. Ordered groceries
