RL is a total beast
I am currently 3 people at work.- Myself - a mild mannered information management officer
- A performance management officer - badgering senior managers who could end my career in an afternoon to complete work they can't be bothered with
- A complaints officer - trying to keep the peace between a horde of angry customers and a sackload of angry managers who can't see why the customers are angry
There have been weeks - *honest to goodness weeks* when I couldn't come onto MSE due to business. Careful what you wish for, eh folks?
I have just started a week or so of leave and the feeling of being able to leave all that nonsense behind (even if it's only for a short while) is undescribably awesome!
I have a driving test booked (mid-April) and am absolutely bricking it. My driving instructor assures me that he wouldn't let me sit the test if I wasn't ready, but I'm finding it very hard to relax. The only thing keeping me going is the fact that the driving test will be less than half then length of a typical lesson for me.
On the MFW front - who knows? The budget was actually fascinating to me, because it brings the prospect of a house within reach within a surprisingly short period (assuming help to buy isn't a total turkey). I realise it will push up prices, I realise that there's an element of moral hazard in offering mortgages to people on high LTV backed by the government, but it works great for those of us who were cautious FTBs and bought less than they could afford.
Currently tidying things up at the end of the financial year (£5k in EF, tidying up our stooze account and hanging on to cash).
Maybe next year will see us in the forever home?
Just a quick update, promised myself that beer drinking was the focus of this evening0 -

And also that you will no longer be paying for the lessons, does Mrs E have one booked too? I will think about you through the middle of April and send good luck wishes.
I have been off work for nearly a week and have been in every day this week. I am looking forward to Mr AJM finishing work tomorrow as he will not allow me to go in and then I will feel more relaxed and able to have a break.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1931.07/£2700

Not yet, but she is gaining in confidence. I am looking forward to not spending £5-600 a month on lessons0 -

Really glad the budget will help you :T. Can you start looking now and post links - we like a bit of house !!!!!! round hereA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Best of luck for the driving test in a few weeks Ed...
Your house plans sound exciting too.0 -
I'd definately take GGs advice about having more beers!
Because when you've passed your driving test.........
Seriously, wishing you all the best for your rest - we are all rooting for you.

Today started in a less than pleasant fashion after my usual £1700 or so salary failed to materialise  Despite updating my bank details after I switched to Santander, my employer's bleeding edge, multi-million pound payroll system did not retain the information and realistically, I'm not going to get the money until something like the 9th of April.
It's a sign of how far we've come financially in the last few years that, while it has really hacked me off, I didn't get in a tantrum and all our bills will still be paid on time.
I have used some downtime today to continue with the great simplification - my quest towards simplified money management - less silly beggary and no crazy schemes :A
I have closed our FD accounts, closed my Barclaycard and have emptied all my Halifax accounts (these will be closed next week). I have also paid off our £2k Tesco credit card stooze. The net effect of the tidying is probably -£70 a year, but I am starting to feel that life is too short. Much as work is a bit silly at the moment, even a 1% payrise makes that sort of 'freebie' from clever banking shenanigans look pretty insignificant.
I will also be unsubscribing from a few mailing lists tonight (including Quidco, which I haven't used in months as TCB works fine for me and always pays more, anyway). So part simplification, part 'offer detox'.
My day off wasn't entirely boring - Mrs E and I had some lovely QT and I got to spend a guilt free £75 in Wholefoods thanks to a birthday voucher (I am 30 on Easter) :easter:0
