Love the idea of bee-friendly pot sets!
Piq have you thought of making templates for the lettering? Print off the herb names in a pleasing font, transfer to thin waxed card [from an art supplies shop], cut out lettering with a craft knife. Each one should do a dozen pots before needing replacement.
A marbled background on the pots might also be a USP...
I actually bought some proper stencilling card a while back, the problem was always the curve of the pot, it's easy when working on a flat surface. However, I've had a go at a bee stencil and it's not too bad as long as you concentrate on the shimmery wingsThe numbers you need for elecrtickery emergency are 08007838866 or text 80876. Glad power back on now!
In my phone. Thank you!!
The power was lost for a five mile radius. It was caused by the strong winds bringing down a tree onto some power lines apparently. All fixed now, apart from the fact that it's still quite windy!Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Not so tired now. One of the new gardening jobs is very physical as the garden is incredibly overgrown. I was having to dig up huge chunks of deep rooted weeds. The ground was hard and very heavy clay. However, my client was so grateful and insisted on paying me extra for all the hard work.
I met my new client, she is the dearest lady, blind and virtually immobile. I am going to tidy her garden [masses more weeding and plant her a scented garden for her to enjoy.
Today I spent a couple of hours on housework, thought I ought toThen potted on a few plants and played with painting pots.
I have someone coming tomorrow to cut down the overgrown bushes, level the ground and erect my new greenhouse. I took your advice and decided to pay someone to do it for me. I need somewhere to keep all these plants. It's still to cold for them to stay out overnight. The more I pot on the more I have to bring in each evening and put out each morning!
Still to come, the story of Colin on his cat lead, but I'm about to have a glass of wine and some mushroom risotto right now

I love the bee pot! I think with the parliament lobby and the friends of the earth lobby people will want to help the little fuzzballs! Mushroom risotto sounds fab too after a hard day. That and a glass of wine and a relaxing saturday evening - just the ticket.
The scented garden sounds lovely. I lovethe smell of jasmine, so have planted next to my window, and summer is not summer without that keynote smell drifting in... sigh!Trying to shift that debt!0 -

i've ordered some free seeds for the kids to use from the freebie site
a pot like this would be great to put it in (i'm so not artistic though so the flower bed will have to do) xx

Morning
Love the bee pot!
Rather than using card (which works fine on a flat surface), you might like to look out for thin plastic sheets. You would need a good craft knife to cut the letters, but then you would be able to bend the plastic around the curve of the pot. If I hadn't just offered my last sheet to my parents for the top of their small greenhouse (don't ask!), I could have sent it to you. If they don't use it all, perhaps I could send you what is left? You would then be able to try it out to see if it would be easier.

Morning (just!) all.
Piq, please pm a postal address to me as I have just found a pile of plastic stencils which i would like to send you. There is a variety of designs including a few animal ones and some lovely letters! They are the proper flexible sheets which you can cut or use whole. I have used some but I doubt if I shall use them again. You are very welcome to them.
If you pm today, hubby will post on Monday.

Your bee pot looks great!
I know what you mean by the problem of working on curved surfaces. I've got round this in the past by taping paper onto the shape [cut to fit if necessary], marking my 'target area' on that paper, then laying it on whatever I was using to make the template so that it's easy see how the design needs to 'bend' in order to make it fit where it's supposed to go.
Fantastic to read Rosie and Suzee's better suggestions for more modern materials you could use for the templates - this site is amazing! :T0 -

I went over the 'friendly' in permanent marker and it now looks a whole lot better! I planted it up with a small pink patio rose and it's out the front waiting for the passing hoards to want to buy oneI have got a few of the pots out the front, the only person to have noticed is the postman
I have experimented on a pot using the method you describe and it works well, it's the writing that gets me every time!Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
