Piq I was glad to read that Captain is settling in well at his new home.
How far away from your house is he now?
About seventy-five miles each wayYou are going to need a few basic tools for Grasp the Nettle!, and probably a small van too. To fund this I have a suggestion. Couldn't mention it earlier because you were tied by the necessity of caring for Captain every day. But now, especially as Colin has shown he will accept a new location [- would your friend have him to board sometimes?], you are in a position to consider doing something a bit radical to boost your funds:
https://www.country-cousins.co.uk/
I know several women who are 'cousins'. They work at the client's home for two - four weeks at a time. Common sense is the most valuable qualification, the wages are good - and arrive as a lump sum at the end of each placement.
The 'cousins' I know are all happy in the job; most have a couple of regular clients where they're providing respite for family carers or they might be helping someone return home after a hospital stay. Pay is higher if you're prepared to offer personal care, but the basic job is simply running the client's household and keeping them company for a couple of weeks.
As part-time work it's a cracker - so long as you are able to leave your home responsibilities for a couple of weeks every two or three months (or more often if you need to build up a bigger stake).
Anyway, it might be something to think about.
Thank you for this, I didn't know such a service existed. I have sent in a request for an application. If there was someone needing me locally I would love to do this. Although Colin traveled well and was happy to be fed 24/7 I don't want to be parted from him for weeks at a time.
Whilst we were away he couldn't go out in case he got lost and I know my friend would leave the back door open and he'd be gone. He loves the outdoors. Honestly, he seems like my only real life friend at the moment and I wanted to give him a permanent loving home here after his life of wandering.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
