Good luck with the application - I would imagine that your skills set would make you ideal. I do understand your wish to do the best for Colin, but please don't let him stop you from doing anything long term that would help you. I know of a few people who sacrificed promising relatiionships and career moves for animals - who died not too long afterwards, in two cases.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0

Feeling a lot better now, thank you.
The sun is shining weakly so I've tottered around the garden sweeping up leaves, there are still so many. I've also here and there sown some alyssum seeds in the cracks in the walls and paving, all marked with pot markers, so's not to get weeded later!
I've potted up loads of scented tobacco plants in anticipation of warm summer evenings with a glass of wine on the patio, ever the optimist! And my black pansies are starting to shoot, very exciting. I love pansies and the black ones are stunning. I'll have loads. I'm hoping to have enough to be able to leave a potted one at my customers.
Finally got my internet fee sorted out. It took an immense amount of patience and somehow did not tell the person on the other end of the phone to take a running jump! Although I did suggest that they rename their company ListenListen or ReadRead as calling it T@lkT@lk wasn't working in my book. Eventually got my bill down to £7 a month from £15.49. They were proposing to put it up to £25 a month. I also refused to have a new contract for 24 months. If I want to leave, I'm leaving. I've been a customer for years. I refused to have my loyalty questioned. I was very snippy indeed....
Also sold a few bits on eb@y. I want to do a couple of days courses on horticulture at the agricultural college. The first one is in April, must book it later.
What else? Applied for a water meter, that should save some more money. Still yet to cancel the boiler insurance, will be doing that later too.
And guess what? Yet again Pr£t have messed up my pay....Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Babe the fruit cage is already built. It is the beds inside the fruit cage that are in dire need. Also I wouls like some roses out in and generally make it look pretty x
So you're planning to cage me?
Err, do you want the roses in or out? David Austin do the most amazingly scented old English style rosesWell I've made one before and rebuilt another ..... Does that count?
It counts! You're coming too! Some interesting ideas .....
Not sure what to suggest about TE gutters etc but we managed to get ours on cheap by asking a friendly builder when h had off cuts and was in the area, £300 both sides
I do have a card for someone who does gutters, but I don't have the money at the momentTotal debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

I have no carpentry skills whatsoever. I have no idea how to build a fruit cage, however, I am a fruit case, does that count?
I will happily weed and plant for you, but building is a dangerous area!PinotGrigio41 wrote: »:j:j:j as usual a few days behind everyone else, but just wanted to say - Me Too, my parents are desperate for someone, can we add them onto the tail end of the Road Show please ?!
Happy to.Wow look how far the ideas have run - Piq welcome to your Grasp the Nettle Roadshow!
(Love it, love it, love it!).
They used to be quite common - went with bigger gardens and the expectation that most folk would 'grow their own'. When I was very young indeed and living with Grandparents, I suspect Grandpa used his as an impromptu play-pen for me while he was doing things in the garden which included sharp implements. I remember hours of fun hiding amongst the raspberry canes, grazing on the fruit..

I've read you're diary from start to finish over the last 3 days and feel as if I know you. I love you stories about the Captain and Colin and have been rooting for you the entire way.
I'm loving the gardening ideas and really hope they take off for you!

Colin's only two, I hope he goes on for a while yet. I know it may sound strange, but it wouldn't help me to be separated from him. I'm separated from the Captain now and I cry about it every night. I'm trying to get things off the ground so I can have him back. I don't want to lose Colin to get the Captain back. I want both of them!Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Dear Piq
Well you sound a whole heap perkier and long may that continue! Good for you to start the application process. Also have you considered house / pet sitting where you roll and few times a day to up / close curtains / feed fish etc?
Again of course you can take it to the level of overnightness and so on if you think Colin would travel well (I think he has shown remarkable tenacity for this and would relish being outdoors at home only!)
I know what you are saying about the losing one to gain another, it won't happen you are far too determined to get to that stage.
Hope the flowers come up for you - the pansies sound amazing pictures please!Start info Dec11
