oooh had cocoa with a wee bit of cream earlier - does that count? It was yummy.
I sympathise with your aches and pains Piq, I remember when I used to do a long cafe shift I'd have to lie down when I got home and then struggled to move after
Interesting so many people don't get Mrs Brown, still it'd be strange if we all liked the same thing. Personally I don't like Miranda or some of the classic stuff like Fawlty Towers so ..........
Glad they finally got your insurance sorted but doh what a bunch of numpties!0 -
Ooooh, Piq, another interview and you couldn't tell us as you had no internet, what a bummer, and here we were wondering where you'd gone. I think phone interviews are so difficult to conduct and to present. I'm frankly astonished that the interviewer would question why you are working at Pret, don't these people read the newspapers for goodness sake - we all know that it is career people at your level who have been hardest hit by the recession.
I used to have my own business (as well as FT job - Christ I had some stamina in those days) and once I gave it up I kind of worried that I would miss the income, and do you know what, I didn't at all. It was long before I found this place so I wasn't as money savvy as I am now, but even so I managed just fine on my much lower income. You have learned such good habits during your 'poverty years' that will stand you in good stead in the future. Plus surely less money = less stress eh? And you can always get a Saturday job at Pret:rotfl:0 -
Hot chocolates all round then! I've got a brilliant teeny tiny whisk that makes sure there are no lumps in the chocolate. I was very tempted to add something naughty like brandy to the chocolate, but luckily I don't have any
I'm just so disappointed in my interview, I just get so nervous, it means so much to me to get a job, yet I let myself down. I know I'm out of date a bit on the skills and technology but I'd pick it up quickly. My other experience by far outweighs any lack of skill anyway.
Ah Teapot, the aches of cafe work eh? I'm not exagerating to say I'm almost crippled with the pain of it this evening. Getting off the sofa is probably funny to watch, but not so funny to endure!
You're quite right Dot, I will be able to manage on far less when I finally get a job, but it will be nice just to have a tiny bit of disposable income and not worry all night about how I'm going to pay the bills.
Dawg might have got the froth Mara, but I didn't share one bit of the hot chocolate with Colin, even though he was practicing his puss-in-boots eyes :rotfl:Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Don't worry everything is fine. The internet went on holiday.
My connection has been intermittent to say the least! The neighbours have had the same problems. It seems to be back now and hopefully won't go away again
Off to work soon, I will be back to catch up this evening, internet permitting.

Re the interviews Piq I think it takes 3 or 4 to get one's eye in again. Coming over well in interviews is a skill which needs constant practice to do well, so it's not surprising that you feel you could have done better after a long gap.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420

I'd forgotten what a lovely thread this was, so am hastily rejoining. Hello again.
I 'get' Mrs Brown, though having seen the film Agnes Brown, it's really hard to make the link. That reminds me, I loaned the last book in the series to my friend before reading it myself. No mention has been made of it... Which doesn't augur well, she sometimes forgets what isn't hers.
... Piq, phone interviews - I've only done one, ever, and I got the job, though there was more than one post available.
It was a bit nerve wracking and it resulted in my having to do a horrendously tough course at college to get the requisite qualification, but goodness knows where I would be now if I hadn't got it.
It's all experience, as others have said, and fwiw, I think the thank-you note was a very nice touch.
Though I'm not an equine expert by any means, there was some incredibly good advice on boxing a youngster earlier. The knowledge on these threads! (Good luck with the coming year.)
I've just realised that what I need at the moment is a mug of Tesco Value instant hot chocolate. Yum!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Red wine sounds so much more appealing than hot chocolate, though maybe not this early. For some reason, despite loving chocolate I can't stand chocolate things like hot chocolate.
I've got another 2 days of antibiotics left, then maybe I might treat myself to a glass of wine, purely for medicinal purposes you understand.
