Fab re the baking and glad colin cant get the basil now, love it that you still write his name really small :D

That's because I still find it a really embarrassing name for a cat :rotfl:and he makes me call it at the back door before he scampers down the garden :o He has removed every pansy head from the pot outside his house, possibly revenge for moving the basil or he doesn't like pansies...

PSMy girls adored their trip to the stables last week...have talked about little else since. Think I may have judged the Xmas pressie well..but for sure there will be no livery conversations in a few years time!we just won't be able to afford its,

Try to keep strong on it, there are so many hidden expenses with horses. Tomorrow I have to pay out for new shoes for the Captain, that'll be a mere £70

Lovely Colin most probably remembers when he was living rough, and wants to make the most of every meal. Perhaps he remembers living at the shelter, and eating in company can make a cat very nervous that its food will be stolen. Or he's like my marmalade boy and just loves eating!

Half day tomorrow for a hospital check up in the afternoon, which means I miss out on overtime for what is usually a late finish, AND have the cost of the diesel to hospital, and either car-parking, or the park-and-ride shuttle. Feeling a bit rattled so hot chocolate, hot water bottles, and the gingerkits and I are off to bed.

Good point, I think that could be it, he is quite a stocky cat and combined with worry about fending for himself probably means he will always be this way. He certainly hunkers down in front of his bowl with no intention of moving until it's empty!

Hope the hospital trip goes okay.

you amaze me at the stuff you make out of left overs..think you should open a cooking school

I love the challenge of making meals from leftovers. I like nothing better than looking at ingredients and coming up with something. I did play with writing up recipes, but it's actually having the leftovers in front of me that gets the creativity going. I'd love to be able to help other people make meals from scratch.

I did the grocery shop last night and got cheese, cream, potatoes and carrots at whoopsie prices. The whole shop came in at £12.37. However, I'm going to set a separate budget up for Colin as he's coming in very expensive with the amount he's eating a whopping £14 for him. I'm going to do some research and see if I can buy cheaper online. That will be today's task.

Today will be a NSD, but tomorrow I must buy the Captain's supply of carrots a huge sack only costs £2.50, but his shoes cost £70. All budgeted for, but nevertheless, an expensive day.

hello, re pet food, try going via quidc0 to z00plus - cheapest by the time you have accounted for the cash back - although on really specialist food I have on occasion found special deals from online pharmacy to be good too. T3sc0 are doing 2 for £5 on some sort of puss cat chow
can you give him some dry and some wet to spread the costs? I know cashflow may prohibit but sometimes you can get good deals on own brand or loose cat food from bigger pet warehouse type places. just a few thoughts.
Glad you are both OK and made it through October

Do cats eat rice? I boil rice in a stock cube for my dogs and bulk up their food with that. I get a huge sack of rice which works out quite cheap. My chickens also love it. :D

    £70??!! Blimey.

Just taken our cat to the vets this afternoon. Check up, steroid injection, worming tablet and painkillers/anti inflammatory for the month rolled in at £54...I am amazed that I think I got away lightly!! That's how much our animals cost us. Hard to do on a budget. Did you see newspaper article today about recession causing many more people than ever to give up their pets to rescue charities? I can see why.

Thank you! I've had a look and some of it looks very reasonable and good quality. I'm putting in a trial order tomorrow (I don't want to spoil my NSD today :o)

He claims he doesn't like dry cat food, there is a bowl of it always on the mat. It evaporates overnight :rotfl:but he is never seen eating it!

I think cats have different requirements to dogs and need a higher meat content. Thanks to missrir I may have found the answer. Apart from putting him on restricted rations, that is!

Yes, you read it right - £70  That's one of the many expenses horses rack up for you.

£54 is good for a vet fee. I always have a mental note about vet fees - no change from £100 :( It's nice when it comes in under.

Another cook-a-thon done. Using up the whoopsie sweet potatoes I have made two sans shepherd pies with sweet potato topping. There is enough filling to mix with cooked rice for a third meal too. Two nectarine and blackberry crumbles, using up the last of the free nectarines from work and blackberries from the hedgerow.

I got carried away blackberrying and have picked enough to make a few jars of jam for Christmas presents. I am going to make jars of cranberry and white chocolate cookie mixes for presents too. They will look lovely all stripey and tied with ribbon and a label with the recipe printed on it. I shall use golden castor sugar to add colour. I thought I might do some triple chocolate chip jars too. I am being given a bag of pears so will make some pear chutney for gifts as well. Hopefully, this will solve most of my Christmas dilemmas.

In the spirit of being economical I cut the top of my tube of moisturizer that I thought was nearly empty and reckon I'll get at least another four days worth out of it :j

I finally got into my online savings account and found that I had £25.68 in there. In just over five years I have earned 68p interest, this equates to 1p a month....

I'm sending my used printer cartridge to the recycling factory and will receive £4.10, quite pleased with that, free envelope as well!
