  • If she reckons half is hers, simply give her a print out with all the missed mortgage payments she hasn't made over the years and just net half of this refund off that much larger amount !

She'll sharp shut her cake hole :)

He's fek'd if she gives him the childcare bill:D
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

Surely you mean 'half the child care bill' ;)

Personally I think 'her' money and 'my' money in a marriage is a bit strange, but seems to be a recurring theme on these boards.

I think it's impossible to answer this question without further information, though I notice the man hating squad have arrived on the scene early as per!

Does the OH contribute to anything financially? What does she spend 'her' money on? Will she say:

    a) I'm taking the kids shopping, give me some money.
    b) I'm taking the kids shopping.

For all we know the OH could be a complete sponger - how often do we see threads turned on their head when not being given the full picture by the OP until 6 pages in?

As someone else quoted - many a truth said in jest!

Is the cheque on your name only? Whst you should have done is cash the cheque without telling her then, book a lovely week-end away just you and her, treat her like a queen, and when she'd asked how you afforded it, mention very quickly about the refund and how you felt it was right to spend it on a special time away together. She'll be so happy, she won't question the 'surprise'!

You are married - an EQUAL partnership!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Wow pleased Im not married to you. I would go half or use it for a family holiday, joint savings.

I am a fulltime SAHM and my husbands splits every thing with me.

I've been flip-flopping between both sides here.

I read this below and agreed with it

If your mortgage had been £3500 lower over a set period, what would you have done with the spare money? It would have been in your pocket, so that's where the refund should go.

    and then I thought:
based on the OP's arrangements, if the mortgage had been underpaid by £3500 - who would have paid it?
And the answer would be the OP - as he pays all the bills.

And he's been very clear that the money his OH earns is hers:

I pay all the house bills, childrens bills and holidyas etc. She gets to keep all her money for herself. I have no problem with this arrangement.

It's not half yours, half hers, it's all yours as a couple.

If my OH wanted to split money down the middle I'd be off to find myself a hot shot career paying well straight away and charging him half for childcare plus everything else and also making him to half the chores.

I would be really upset if my DH thought all the money was his just because I can't go out and earn as much as him.

Now I work full time and earn quite a bit more than the missus who works part time.
