  • I have been married 8 years and didn't change my name. I still use Miss/Ms and don't use my husband's name for anything at all. Not been an issue for us.

If you don't want to change your name, don't change it!

  • To be honest, the thing I miss the most is my old signature - I spent years perfecting it, and my new one is just a scruffy scribble :o
I loved changing my name last autumn, but I have struggled to create a new signature I like, but have come to realise that as my original one was illegible in terms of my surname, there is no reason why I can't keep it, so I'm still using the old signature (squiggle squiggle, line could be anything but as long as it is alwys the same, which is it, it is valid):D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

I will miss my old name when I change mine, I have an unusual first name and my maiden name just goes so well with it. I keep saying my new name in my head and it sounds so strange, it will definitely take some getting used to!

I'm in two minds about whether I'm looking forward to changing my name or not.

Am in teh same situation as lots of others in terms of work, so might keep my name for that.

My maiden name is unusal and goes really well with my first name (again not common). Also, my dad passed away last year and I feel sad to be losing something he gave me (if that makes any sense).

My new name is more common - though still not common place and everyone says with my 1st name it will sound very posh. But I think my main issue with being Mrs H**** is that not only was his ex the 1st Mrs H****, but she still uses that name. :(

I am going from a unique surname that only my mum, brother and I have, to a surname that is not used in this country but is quite popular in the country it came from.

I have to spell out both anyway but his surname is easier to spell out so that will be good. Also is shorter as my surname is 13 letters long and his is 8 letters.

My new surname doesn't really go with my first name though....

So not sure... I don't think I will miss my maiden name but my married name will be weird at first.

You could both choose a different name to be called ;)

What a good idea - but not sure the kids would go for that. :)

We joked about doing that for ages! I think my husband's quite miffed that I kept my name (I am still Ms Maidenname), but he was no more willing to change his to mine, so he couldn't really argue.

I can't begin to imagine how weird it would be to change one's name - I never even considered it!
  • I do miss my maiden name! Everyone said that it had a nice ring to it and even sounded like a showbiz name. My new (well, 3 years old now) surname isn't that uncommon, especially in Scotland/Ireland, but people have trouble spelling and pronouncing it - even moreso than my maiden name which was French in origin.

What I did do when I got married was keep my maiden surname, but as one of my middle names and have told hubby that any future children will follow suit, so will have my maiden name as one of their middle names and we will all share the same surname. I think that's a nice compromise :)

My son has my surname as a middle name and his daddy's surname. It means he has both of our names legally, and he can choose to use either when he's older.
