Yeah, we better not get into that.0 -
Come join us in the 21st century. It's great fun.My wife will be staying at home to raise the kids, because that is what she wants to do - if she wants to go out to work then I will not have any objections to this, as long as it fits around the kids schooling etc.
As the man, I pay the mortgage and the bills - my wife will never have to worry about this - any money she earns she can spend on herself.
As for a daughter, I would let them make up their own mind on how live life.
If I ever have a son that gives up his surname to take on his wife's I will disown him.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

There is no point - the end result of a wedding is to share the shame surname - if that's not going to happen then you might has not bothered. I want my post addressed to Mr and Mrs Dan.
Oh I dearly hope that your fiance reads this and finds out that the only reason you are marrying her is so that she changes her name.
And I also hope that immediately after the ceremony, she says "By the way darling, I've decided not to take your name afterall" :rotfl:
And then I hope she divorces you on the grounds that you are a misogenistic bigot.
Have a nice life.
I'm not feeding the troll anymore. You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

Im happy to change mine.
I see it as a transition- growing up, becoming a 'new' person.
My childhood was ok, my teenage years were horrible, and my 20s havent been that great, so Im looking forward to moving on and up!!
Also, whenever bad things used to happen we would mutter 'oh thats just the Lewis luck!':(.
Hopefully my new surname will be a little luckier!!! :beer:0 -
I'm in the weird situation of already having used my married name for many years!
When I was a young teenager and exploring the internet for the first time, I not only gave myself a screenname, but also invented a fake 'real name' to use if anyone asked, just to protect myself a little more. Through years and years of chatting with people on message boards (usually music fansites!) and even meeting up with people (at gigs and festivals), I always used that fake real-name, so that now I answer to it just as readily as my actual name.
As it turns out, my OH's surname is the same surname I picked for myself, back when I was 13! Amazing coincidence, and it's great because I'm already used to using it.
I will miss my maiden name, particularly my signature: gonna have to practice a new one now! But i'm excited to take on my new name too.Life on a shoestring!0 -
I haven't quite decided if I will change my name or not. I'd be quite happy to be rid of my maiden name - it's not a bad name in itself, but it doesn't really go well with my first name.
However, my OH is from overseas and the first letter of his surname is silent so I will have to spell my surname out forevermore if I change it. Although having said that I seem to have to do that often enough with my own surname so it's maybe not much of a hardship.
Professionally it would be tempting to retain my maiden name, although my christian name is quite unusual, there's only a handful of people with the same name in my profession in the UK, so people would probably be able to track me down via my first name anyway0
