Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

  • Hello everyone

Last week I spent nothing :j

I'm aiming to spend no more than £5 this week

Thank you to both pointypenguin and LC for running this thread, I find it a great support and extremely friendly. Pointy the thought of being without internet access, for prolonged periods, fills me with fear. My sisters computer is broken (and has been for about a month), the very first thing she does when visiting is jump online.
Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

  • My aim for this week is £15.
I'm going to take £15 from my bank and only use that money - not taking my cards with me.

I seem to have a problem with not eating right whilst at University. I tend to buy red bull and chocolate and crisps all the time... wasting money!

Thanks pp and LC for keeping this wonderful thread going:T It keeps me on the straight and narrow:)
A friend is leaving this week for foreign parts and there may be a night out so I'm going to set my budget this week at £25
Debt free as of 29.10.2020 🎉😁

  • Hello everyone :wave:and also adding my thanks to LC and PP for running this thread :A It certainly has stopped me from wasting money, goodness knows where I would be otherwise, have only managed one week in the green in the last 3 week (since I started this challenge), so fingers crossed it'll be a green one this week.

Not holding my breath mind, as it's DD's 14th birthday on Friday and we are going out for a meal (meal will be paid for tho from MrT vouchers and going to Hungry Mare, so only drinks to pay for there). Am off to Cardiff on Wednesday with my DD, her friend and her mum (shopping for prom dresses for my DD's friend), so need to allocate money for that - ummmmm, let's go for £50 and hope that it'll be enough. ;) No bus fares to pay for this week, so that'll be a bit of a help :T

  • Good morning everyone!

Pointy - Thanks for running last week's thread and hope your dongle gets sorted soon and that you don't disappear into an internet black hole, never to be seen again!

LC - Thanks for this week's thread and for taking over the running of the thread from here onwards! :T

abundant1972 - Congrats with your purple week last week! I too can report that I was purple last week! :j

Unfortunately, a BIG food shop is on the cards, which I'll also combine with paying for a mini break to look forward to in May! sunshine-012.gif So, once I've worked out my budget for the week, I'll be back to post my pledge.

In the mean time, have a good rest of the weekend everyone and stay wrapped up warm! cold2.gif

    Hi guys :hello:

Wow, what a lot of thanks for pp and me! :oIt's an absolute pleasure of course, I love this thread _party_ and hearing about what everyone's up to, long may it continue!

Anyway, I've updated the first post from everything I can see on this week's and last week's threads, so please poke me if I've missed you off or got something wrong!

I shall write out my plans for the week and then see if a realistic budget springs out at me ...drawing a bit of a blank today, I need more :coffee::rotfl:

    Sun 12 Feb: True NSD
Mon 13 Feb: Parking at OU (first tutorial of new course)
Tue 14 Feb: NSD for challenge (haircut from Hair budget)
Wed 15 Feb: NSD for challenge? Workshop in evening (small fresh shop from Week 3 Food budget)
Thu 16 Feb: NSD for challenge
Fri 17 Feb: No plans yet...

So that's cleared up naff all then :wall:

    I'll say £20 ABSOLUTE maximum!

Have a great Sunday all :j

    Morning all

I'm going to declare myself green this week, mainly based on the fact that I have £10 and change in my purse. I will go for £30 for the week ahead and promise to keep track of it all :o
  • What a rubbish start to keeping my expenses down over half term week. I decided this morning it was ages since we'd done anything together as a family. As I'm full of cold, I'd forgotten to get the meat out to defrost for dinner, so I've just paid £21.16 for the four of us to have pub Sunday lunch. It was fantastic and only the second time the four of us have eaten out this year (compared to every week last year), so I don't feel too bad, but the budget is already suffering for the week ahead.
