We use Frontline spot on and get it every time we visit the vets - for the cats and the dogs. It works well, havent tried getting it from anywhere else though.

You'd save loads if you bought it online - my last box of 6 pipettes for my cats cost £18 - I wonder how much your vet charges - possibly double that?

Advocat, if cats no longer respond to Frontline in particular.

What do mites look like? They are identical in look to fleas and had accumalated on 2 areas of her outer ear, and died by drowning them in water (as fleas do)

Never had ear mites in my cats but I know they live in the ear and make the ear produce a lot of dark waxy stuff. The link below says they care small and white. You will need to have a vet diagnose / treat them and soon as they are a serious condition if not controlled ie can lead to further complications. I've now been putting Advantage on all 3 cats and dosing Tig with Program for 4 months. No flare-up of his allergy and no evidence of flea dirt on any of the cats or their bedding!

Using a spray in the house is not practicable for me - 4 storeys and the cats go everywhere :o.

You're saying it's not practical, but if you use indorex you spray the entire house once, and it lasts for an entire year.

If anything, the fact that your cats have fleas and like you said are going everywhere should make you more inclined to just go ahead and do it because you will have four storeys of fleas more than likely that are just going to keep reinfecting your cats.

The mites we were discussing are not the internal ear mites you mention here but a small mite which can be found on the outside of the ear, usually in the small fold of skin towards the base of the ear.

  • Bob Martin green packet is rubbish. This is the one not too buy.

Bob Martin Flea Clear is same ingredients as Frontline - Half the price
Bob Martin Double Action treats fleas with same ingredient as Advocate (but won't treat worms (not that Advocate treats tapeworms anyway)) - half the price.

All household sprays treat adult fleas for between 4-6 weeks. When they say they last 12 months they mean they stop the eggs hatching for 12 months. To make it more effective, hoover before and after and every day for 7 days from spraying. Bob Martin flea bombs have around 13% permetherin. This is the stuff that kills the adults - most sprays have less than 1%.

I need to get out more!
