Hi there is a new flea collar created by bayer for the flea allergic it supposed to be a god send

Seresto it works in the same way that advocate and advantage work but lasts for up to 8months!!
and it can be used in combination with their other products

:jI am seriously excited about this information BUT have an order to now await & use of the Program & spot on flea stuff first & the 2 sites I found stocking Seresto insist on a prescription, apart from convenience it would be major moneysaving.:T Will contact vets in meantime & ask about them stocking it/writing a prescription for my two.

I have never heard of Seresto before. Will look into it, thanks:) I've used frontline combo on my cats for years. When advantage became available without prescription, I stocked up on it to save money. However, I have ended up spending more on vets fees as one of my cats appears to be allergic to it! He has a bald patch on his back where I've applied the treatment. It got infected and he was given a course of anti Bs. So much for saving money!!! I should have stuck with frontline combo. He is a large cat and I think the dose for large cats was too strong for him. Anyone elses cat developed an allergy to advantage?

Yeah it is prescription only, I haven't had any complaints from anyone using it yet, its one size fits all for the cats (two sizes for dogs)
I put the collar on my cat there was abit over as she is only a small thing (which i put in the hoover - in case i had sucked any fleas into the hoover!)

I usually get my stuff from here, it's free delivery and quite quick as well.

As to a "flea season" I usually find they are worst about July/August, we never have a problem in the Winter, despite having the heating on. I normally use Frontline and it seems to work a treat :)

I think some fleas are getting immune to Frontline. My cats are o.k with Frontline but it doesnt work on my friends cats . Her cats have Stronghold.

Treating the house is a pain in the proverbial - sterilising the insects is far preferrable PLUS one cat has flea allergy & gets sores on her jaw sometimes before the month is up. With one housecat & one wanderer there is a regular supply of fertile fleas being brought in.

If you don't treat your house then you're never going to be rid of the problem and the cat with the allergy is going to be continually plagued by them biting her. If you eradicate the fleas from your house then you only need to actually treat your cats 2/3 times a year.

You must use a veterinary grade household spray such as Acclaim or Indorex though. Anything else is a waste of time/money.

Program sterilises the blighters & meantime visiting my local vets to check that Seresto collar will accomodate their catflap magnets or not.

I got the sprays but really it's hassle - which some people are happy to undertake (but telling me again will not make me do it).

Program may well sterilise them but it doesn't stop them biting your cat. It's the flea saliva that triggers the allergy. If spraying your house to eradicate the fleas and provide protection for your poor cat for the next 12mths is too much hassle.......

I've now been putting Advantage on all 3 cats and dosing Tig with Program for 4 months. No flare-up of his allergy and no evidence of flea dirt on any of the cats or their bedding!

Using a spray in the house is not practicable for me - 4 storeys and the cats go everywhere :o.

all the supermarkets sell own label (=cheap) non-drowsy anti-histamines now & until I get my delivery I will be giving them these!

The proliferation of the fleas is something I want to end - I will spray but I will not be forced 2 spray immediately - so preventing breeding is vital - even if it's to give me time to spray in my own time! & my cats go everywhere - & constant cleaning is not something I see as my life's work!
