I do hope you're not planning to give your cat human drugs without veterinary advice as some anti-histamines are highly unsuitable for cats and can in fact be dangerous.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

DITTO to this!! it is really not wise, you may overdose them! not good
Its like people giving paracetamol and ibuprofen to their animals without realising that they are toxic !!0 -

Shops own brand is better/cheaper - so it wasn't actually my idea!0 -

I know exactly what vets prescribe, I am a vet! But there are a whole host of antihistamines out there, some of which are dangerous for animals. I also wouldn't advise using a shops own brand as you have no idea what else is in them or whether they could be harmful.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
today for peace of mind/cats health
1 flea injection for the allergic cat done today at the vets
2 long lasting collar (Seresto) for my other more robust cat - again from the vets (some £10 more than online but at least I can get prescriptions for future ones).
So nearly £76.48 spent BUT I will not have to revisit flea matters for at least six months = bliss.0 -

As you've mentioned that you're not keen on spraying the house, what about using Borax (the real stuff, not the substitute). This kills fleas and doesn't have the strong smell of the sprays. You would need to keep the cats out of the treated rooms until you've hoovered all the Borax up though, but you would need to do this when you'd sprayed anyway.

Possibly - maybe when they are staying at my parents house. Not actually seen borax on sale however - where is it sold: hardware/chemist?0

I get mine on-line (there are sellers on Ebay). Apparently is it possible to get it in some Chemists (they stock it behind the counter) as hairdressers use it (got this bit from the Old Style thread!)

We use Frontline SPRAY - you can only buy it from the vets. Its 100ml bottle and is about £23.
Much better than any spot on things.0 -

I agree, it's far better than the spot-ons and is a far more versatile product to use, i.e. it can be used to kill snake mites (off-licence) whereas you can't use a spot-on for that“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
