Snail in my frozen peas

Options
I recently found a small snail in a bag of frozen peas.
I contacted customer services by phone and they were very sympathetic and asked for all the info I could supply about the bag of peas in question.
They then credited me £10 for my inconvenience.
Is this a reasonable about of compensation or should I pursue it further?

I got a something in a loaf of Ormo bread once, complained to the head office in Belfast & a week later a large box of breads & cakes from the Ormo bakery arrived at my home,as well as a £10 voucher.I also complained to Iceland as the bag of Chicken Thigh's I bought was more bone than meat, cue a £20 gift card some days later.

I would say that it is more than adequate :) It's a natural product with a naturally occurring foreign body in it...it's gonna happen from time to time :)

You contact the manufacturer, who may or may not be the store you bought it from. Was it was a store/supermarket own brand or branded product?

If it's an own brand product, you contact the store, as they are also legally the manufacturer. OK, they will take the matter up with their contractor for the product, but that's their problem.

If it's a branded one, you contact the manufacturer direct. There should be contact details on the packaging.

    Hi all,

I've moved this into its own thread since the original was started in 2008. It's really a Consumer Rights question, so I'll move it across there shortly.

I don't see a problem with a snail in with the peas unless you're veggie

Given they tend to freeze peas hours after picking, I would have cooked it up and given it to hubby to taste - seriously!

About 15 (or more :( )years ago my Mum gave me my dinner...including a serving of peas with a slug nestled on top! I cried for ages that the poor little slug had been frozen alive and then cooked. Back then customer service seemed a bit better - my parents rang Sainsburys and the store manager came round within 30minutes to personally apologise and gave us £20 in vouchers. He also removed the slug and gave us a new bag of peas :D

Anyway, yes I do think that £10 is reasonable :)

Ooh it's like Donoghue v Stephenson (1932) One of the most wide reaching cases of our time. Though Mrs Donoghue got gastro enteritis from a decomposed snail in a bottle of ginger beer.

Seriously though? I think it is rather shocking, and you could probably hold out for more. I'm surprised people seem to think it's ok! It depends whether you want the fight.

I don't think it's ok, but apart from a bit of inconvenience, you haven't suffered, have you?

If you had eaten the snail and become ill, it would be a different matter.
