Nails with puff glitter Blooming hard to squeeze!
I have those glitter puffs, only tried them once so far, and totally agree, very hard to squeeze. When I got some out it went everywhere rather than being controlled as the product description suggests it is!!
Had an absolute nightmare trying to remove my polka dots last night, I didn't think it would be that bad, boy was I wrong!! Next time will use the foil method!
Ladies, I was thinking of adding those who have blogs to the main post, so if you PM me with a link to your blog, I'll add it

Morning
What causes nails to split and the top layer to flake off in my case, any ideas?
Thank you
Try using some oil on them if you aren't already.
Solar Oil is good but it is better to use anything rather than nothing. My current favourite is Ciate's Love Me oil which is a pretty pink and smells wonderful. I keep a bottle on my desk so I don't forget to use it daily.
I have one nail that keeps splitting vertically. I think I must have damaged the nail bed at some time as I'm always having to glue it.0 -

My nails used to be the same, the top layer would peel off leaving them really thin. It used to happen mainly on my index and middle fingers so I think it was probably caused by using a keyboard all day. My other nails would grow long but the index & middle finger nails were hopeless.
OPI Nail Envy (Sensitive & Peeling formula) is very good, that certainly helped my nails but my absolute hero product is Nailtiques Formula 2. I just use it as a base coat and I never get any flaking/peeling now. You'll need to try different products to see which works best for you, but either of these should help.0 -
I've uploaded two new pictures in my Flickr photostream, one of my Valentines Nails done with cheapo foils from a cheap chemists and my current Blingy French Manicure done with a max factor set, some nail art pens and a couple of crystals.

I have discovered Seche Vite topcoat thanks to this thread and I LOVE it, it gives a really professional look to my nails!0 -
Question for those who CAN do water marbling....
Do you use tap or bottled water?
Hot, cold, room temperature?
Which brands seem to work best?
I've tried Rimmel Lasting Finish and 60 Seconds, Barry M, Nails Inc, Boots Collection and even a couple of crackle polishes!
I'm ruddy determined to get this sussed! :mad:Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -

I've used both tap and bottled water, both work. Bottled water works better but tap water works as well. Must be room temperature. I've used lots of different brands but I think it's the formula of each individual polish that determines whether it'll work, rather than the brand. I wouldn't try to it with 60 second polishes, they'd dry too quick. Can't imagine the crackle polishes would work either. Nails Inc usually works well for me though. Think I'll do a marble this weekend, not done one for a while.0 -
Thanks starry, I've had some boiled water cooling for the past few hours to see if that will make a difference.
I've tried all 16 of my Nails Inc polishes, but they just will not spread out into rings.
Today is the last time I gonna try this!
I need to be working on my dissertation, not playing with polishes. :rotfl:Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage.0 -
You are only playing with nail polishes because you should be doing your dissertation
Just dont give yourself caffeine poisoning sitting up all weekend to finish it like I did!!0 -

Have you tried it with bottled water? I suppose tap water differs all over the country so although it works for me, it might not for you. If the polish doesn't spread, you can give your cup/bowl/glass a little shake to help it along. Also, when you put your first drop in if you run your toothpick/needle/orange stick around the inside rim of the bowl, just below the waterline, this helps the first drop spread. If the first drop doesn't spread, you're stuffed.0 -

I've used tap & bottle. Always at room temperature in a glass. I tend to fill a bottle and leave it for a few hours in my living room so it gets to proper room temp then pour it in to my glass.
I always mix it with a cotton bud and scrape the top too (like you do to clean the water between nails) to get any bits/oil out and then leave the water for a few minutes to settle. And I change my water every 2/3 nails.
I use nail inc and rimmel polishes, so they definitely work. I didn't have much luck with some cheaper polishes, they were too oily or dried as soon as they hit the water so wouldn't spread properly.
If yours aren't spreading I wonder if you're dropping them from too high and so when they hit the water they're too fast and 'heavy' and just sink as balls? I've had a few that just do that usually when I drop too high or with the brush straight up rather than at an angle to the water. You need several drops of each to get them to go out in rings properly. I find about 1cm above the water at about a 45degree angle and let it slowly drip in to the water works best.
Also, if you use a dishwasher or something, maybe try washing your glass/bowl with just water or soapy water incase something in the dishwasher salts are reacting with your water.
If you're still having problems maybe post a pic of your glass after you've dropped the polish in so we can see what it's like, one of us who do it regularly may recognise what's happening and be able to advise.
