Apparently it's the massaging which increases the blood flow to the nail bed, which encourages healthier nail growth. It takes about 3 months though for the results to show as you have to grow out all the old un-massaged nail.
Well I haven't managed 3-4 times a day, I have an active lifestyle and don't really sit still long enough to remember to do it, but I am pretty much managing once a day during the week, and maybe twice a day at weekends. It's not as much as advised but better than I was doing (once a week!). My 3 months trial period will end at the end of June and my nails are better than they were, I've still got some flaky nail to file off but only about 1mm, so hopefully once that's gone it'll be stronger nail coming through behind it. We'll see. I got a crystal/glass nail file from M&S as I had a voucher, and it's so much nicer than the emery boards!Gives a much smoother result and feels nicer to use too.
That's where I'm getting my file from! I have some vouchers and I can't think of anything better to spend them on. That should help the flaking no end. I completely forget to cuticle oil my nails a few times a day, I really should do though. I have a bottle by the bed, one by the sofa and one in the bathroom0 -

I love them! I sold my Nails Inc black crackle a few months ago on ebay, maybe I should have played around with it a bit more...
The base colours are absolutely perfect for the crackle0 -

Just beautiful. I've always been a bit underwhelmed by OPI polishes but I haven't tried them for about 10 years. I think I might have another go...0 -

LOL I have a bottle by my bed, one by the computer and a tube of cuticle cream in my work bag! I usually only remember when I'm sat in front the computer.0 -

So Karma came and bit me at the weekend (see shameful posts 2023 and 2027)
My mother called, meaning she wanted something she hardly ever calls me. She could hear I was in the middle of something so she asked me what I was doing. As it happened I was trying out the paint on to plastic method link posted by Toomuchdebt. Thank you, it worked like a charm.
Ps. you don’t have to do the first layer of clear polish, it works just fine without and it stops you trying to hunt down the area after its dry (clear plastic sleeve + clear polish = invisible, drove me batty)
My mother suddenly went off into a rant about age appropriate hobbies and playing with nails are for 12 year olds she really got quite vicious about the whole thing. She then decided to put it all down to us being child free by choice and a symptom that we should have babies. Please note everything come down to this – the price of fish/global economy/bad weather is a sign that we should have babies
Being used to my mother I just rolled my eyes right up to the bit when she also mentioned I sucked at it anyway and so I best give it up before I made a fool out of myself. This did goad me to a seconds irritation because 1. She has never seen any of my painted nails 2. Reading between the lines she only wants me to stop because she feels it shows her nails up (she has always bitten her nails and very very badly)
During this rant about regressing to childhood and not being normal.... part of me was laughing my butt off as in the living room my 30yr old OH was building a 4fft rollercoaster out of k’nex – the box stated for 9yrs upwards. He was sat on the floor surrounded by parts and happier than a pig in pooh as he had always wanted one as a kid (he had a hard childhood) and we had seen it while out shopping that day.
So after using skills of many years of calm and not rising to my mother baiting. I apologised insincerely that I would be unable to help her mate (who she wanted to impress) out with an issue that relates to my line of work and hung up.
Admittedly I was not in the best frame of mind to then paint nails. However I did and it came out ok. I was observing to the OH I just couldn’t quite attain that perfect look I was after.
Now, ladies, if you live with a sciencey analytical geek you should never hint at a question as you WILL get an answer. I should mention here his response was typical of him and held no malice what so ever.
He rationally pointed out the look I was after would be unfeasible with my nails. He explained that for example the polished perfectionist/Starry Starry the nail lengths, shape and nail bed were all very symmetrical. Thus achieving a evenness and pleasing balance. He then referenced this with a study about symmetry and the beauty code. The noted though my nails were lovely they had all had a different shape nail bed and my thumb and middle fingers all have a distinct slope to their growth. When he looked up and saw my face he looked totally abashed
So thank you karma, got the message, loud and clear. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
Oh Tyger what a horrid day.I have a slope to my nails too so I sympathise. You remained much calmer than I would have done LOLDebts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

Tyger, I feel for you. I have been blessed with a really supportive mum since I have been an adult, but know those without and it really isn't nice. But you deal with it really well.
I too am not blessed with perfect nails, but I do the best with what I have!0 -
That's your mum talking to you like that?!! Horrible. Xxx0

tyger you do better than me ... when my mil starts ranting i hang up ... she then phones back and starts and i continue to hang up until she can be nice to me ... after all if i went into asda and started ranting at the customer service person i would get lifted so why should i accept it from some one that meants to actually care about me
as for my mother .... well ... i told her just over a year ago i never wanted to hear or speak to her ever again and hung up ... she has phoned now 3 times and 3 times i have hung up on her ... one day ... one day i will no longer need to stress out about her phoning0
