Shoppingaddict - they look fab. Definately need to get me some striping tape.
My OH is getting quite into what my nails are up to as well. He's a bit of a camera whizz as well so keeps coming up with outrageous things for me to try so he can photograph them. Like thats gonna happen anytime soon.0 -

I've got this one; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Orly-Viridian-Vinyl-Nail-Polish-Nail-Lacquer-/200623203149?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb613234d
Absolutely gorgeous finish; just like lino on my nails - LOL
Missed this earlier - too busy looking at your nails lol. Would you say it's very much different to a matte top coat?1008 Hollywalk Park Blog0 -
Just been looking at some swatches and dupes on Google images and notice a lot of people deliberately buy the same colour in another brand. I try my hardest to avoid getting something similar to what I already have. What do people on here do?1008 Hollywalk Park Blog0

They look great shoppingaddict, unusual colour combo but it really works. Your nails are a really nice shape/length as well.0

I'm not sure whether they didn't send mine, it got lost in the post or is just being slow! Still haven't got it.
Hopefully you'll find it on your doormat on MondayI don't suppose they'd mind if you contacted them to ask if they've sent it out yet, I would but then I'm a bit bolshy like that when it comes to my toys

There_Goes_Trouble wrote: »Hi guys,
I'm after some advice, and you lot are the resident nail experts so...
Where does a beginner start with painting nails? I'm not looking to do fancy nail art (yet!) but I'm just trying to get a nice, even, streak-free single colour without getting polish all over my skin and cuticles too! I have looked on youtube but all the people who post videos on there are experienced and make it look so easy, and it isn't. I especially have trouble doing my right hand since I'm right handed. I don't have anyone who can do it for me so I really need to learn.
How do you do it?
Thanks!
I always begin with painting my right hand - like you, I'm right-handed.
Always start with the pinkies and work your way back - if you paint your thumbnail first, you're only going to lean on it or wipe it on the table (or is that just me?!).
Try not to have too much polish on your brush. You'll get the feel of it once you've used it once or twice. You can always add another coat, it's much easier than putting too much on and having to remove it.
Try to leave a tiny (< 1mm) border around the edge of the nail, this will make it look more professional rather than going right up to the cuticle. I find it makes my nails look a little longer and straighter too.
Once you've added your topcoat (most of us swear by Seche Vite) and it's dried for a minute or two, add some cuticle oil to each cuticle. Cuticle oil is very very fine, it penetrates your nail to keep them in good condition and growing well. Olive oil etc is just going to sit on top of your nail instead of sinking in.
You can always buy a nail art wheel or use a set of really cheap stick on nails and blu tac them to cocktail sticks and practice painting them. I have lots of that sort of thing around because I love layering and playing around.
Practice, practice, practice. You'll be fine0 -
Thanks.
I have some nippers but seem to just end up doing more harm than good and creating new hangnails to rip! Its probably just my cackhandedness so I will try again.
The nippers are great for cutting my ridiculously hard nails, although I have to do it into a plastic bag or the shards are in danger of taking an eye out as they ping round the room.
That picture is *gross*. Good job dinner was some while ago!
I know what you mean, sometimes my hangnails end up a bit sharp and too pickable. If you can get as close to the base of the hanging-off bit (technical term) so nothing is left loose then it makes it easier. Also - use a decent cuticle oil. I do my cuticles with mine and rub it into my fingers too. In fact, I use my cuticle oil as a hand treatment, my hands feel lovely afterwards

I'm on the look out of the Minnie Mouse collection.
Me too, Buyapowa have got a co-buy coming soon for the Minnie Mouse mini's set. I just hope I'm not at work when dot goes live as I will miss out.
My nails for the weekend are Opi 'did it on em' by Nicki Minaj, like a neon yellow/green colour. And today I've added sparkly black tips and a sticker design on my ring fingers.
Apologies for the picture darkness, it's the oly picture that shows the mani off the best.
Broke my no buying nail polish in June challenge, went to the beauty place for waxing today and had some money from an expiring voucher to spend so bought 'sunrise' by Jessica, one of the new sling collection polishes, can't see gift vouchers going to waste now.........:AI :heart2: saving money0 -
Iamashopping addict, I'm liking your nails, haven't yet used my striping tape, keep thinking of other stuff that I want to try.
Forgot to say in my other post, counted my polishes today and I've got 92!I :heart2: saving money0
