    Rubber polish!! Wow.

Ok have had a complete disaster tonight. Tried to do a symmetrical pattern and my straight lines are awful. So what is the best way of getting straight lines?

Can you use tape and if so what tape would you use that would not take the rest of nail polish off?

Do you just use a thin brush?

So am going to bed with bare nails tonight :-(

I found nail pens worked for me http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nails-Supreme-Nail-Polish-Colours/dp/B0016995BY

I bought these at a craft fair (and funnily enough got told I was getting a good price of £20 and they're that on Amazon!), and find them the easiest to use for small designs etc. The good thing about these is that when the colours you get are finished you can fill it with ANY make/colour! they are dual tipped so you have the fine tip and click it and you have a normal brush.

As for tape if I do it its low tack masking tape works best for me.

Are you trying to do blocks of colour or thin lines? For blocks I use masking tape, that doesn't pull the rest of the polish up. I believe sellotape works as well. For thin lines you can either use striping tape as the line, or use it as a stencil to get a thin line (i.e. put the tape on, polish over it, pull the tape off).

Thank you both for replying. I was trying to do blocks of colour. So put on two coats of white, then a black triangle to one side of the nail (if that makes any sense.

I tried using a nail pen to cover up the bad join but that just looked even worse (I fear I may have bought cheapy ones but will persevere).

Will send himself out for some masking tape tomorrow and give that a try. Hmmmm stripping tape. Ebay here I come ...... again.

why not draw your triangles using the plastic bag method then stick them down to your nails?

I went to get some better nail remover and a brush from Sallys.

Wandered in to the shop and did a double take... walked back checked... walked off, then came back to the display....went and asked the lady if the displayed price was correct.

    Opi at £2.43 per bottle.

Yes, Opi at £2.43 per bottle.

The colours were not varied and not the current range but still!

    I bought a few.

    :D

Thank you for all your help, I think the Rimmel - Perfect Plum is closest to what I'm looking for.

Does anyone have any tips on how to stop varnish from smudging? I painted mine a couple of hours ago, used two base coats of nail envy, one coat of colour and one top coat of nail envy. I have just scratched my leg and the tips of my nails have smudged up if that makes sense.

Mine did that last night, I think I didn't allow enough time between coats.
