i like that ,safest thing to do is match the motorway speed using the slip road and fall in behind the lorry ,so we do not have to move ,

Some sliproads are just so short that even if you slow down to a crawl, you still aren't guaranteed to find a break in that left-hand lane to merge into before you get to the end, so no matter what the highway code says, some give & take must be allowed or it just becomes chaos.

I think you get the award for the most intelligent motorist in this thread. Someone with common sense who understands the problem.

I've never had to because, even on the M25 in rush hour there is always a gap if you time it right, even for my 20ft long vehicle. But if I misjudged my speed and it was that or drive into the side of a car? Yes, I would stop.

(In fact, the M25 in rush hour is particularly easy as no-one ever drives in lane 1, they all drive in lanes 3/4 nose to tail at 60mph :))

Hang on, so you're lecturing me about getting into lane one when you openly admit you don't even have to worry about it much yourself? Blimey.
Then why use "English" when you mean "British"?

Because with the heating debate going on in this thread when I said what I said I didn't give it as much thought as I should of! :o

If you are on a slip road and there is danger entering the motorway and coming to a stop then use the hard shoulder if you have to and is safe to do so. Its there for emergencies, and preventing an accident is as good as. At least that's what the police I work with tell me.

Had an Eddie Stobart HGV overtake a line of cars on the slushy motorway today and shower us all with grit, snow and lumps of ice

Round these parts they refuse to move into the middle lane when you're trying to merge onto the motorway

    Why should they?
Its up to you to judge and alter your speed so as not to cause other drivers who have right away to alter their route or speed. Read the highway code. Another lane hogger causing tail backs.

Our house is on a slight hill, with the main road at the bottom. The hill is only a slight gradient, except the final 30 yards where it gets steeper.

Every time it snows, someone comes bombing down the road, hits the brakes just before they get to the steep bit, realise they cannot stop, slide down the hill, over the road and end up in the ditch the other side of the road.

Sure enough, there is a car stuck in there tonight - looks like an X5 this time. Every time it snows or is icy, someone ends up in the ditch.

There's plenty of warning signs up, and a 20mph speed limit, but they all seem to think they know better.

Third time mentioned but still a valid point ;)

Is it just me who has noticed that drivers who jump in front of you on motorway sliproads at 45mph never seem to do the same thing to the trucks?

    I wonder why :D
