  • I received my samples from BarefacedBeauty.co.uk called Pure Minerals. I thought they were quite good, but I have nothing to compare to(especially as I have never used Mineral Foundation), although I was impressed with the way it works and feels on your skin! icon10.gif- so as a result from reading this thread I am going to try EB.

I'm an EB convert so you will only get biased views from me... :D

Although I've not bought anything for ages - not needed to, it lasts forever. I'd like to try there shadows but not got round to it yet.

    Hi again,

Hopefully I can help you out with the retractable brush situation - try http://www.crownbrush.co.uk/mineral1.html

The above link should take you direct to the mineral brushes page where you'll see a retractable brush (top right of the page) is £5.25. They also do those brushes that you can fill with minerals, although I think they could be a bit messy. Funnily enough their Kabuki's are in a different section. The only thing I could fault them on is their postage costs - last time I looked they were over £4, so probably not a good deal if you only want one item.

I was first introduced to this company by Angel81 - on the 'Fight Back Against Over-priced Cosmetics' thread, but this was for ordinary make-up brushes: eye-shadow, eye-liner, lip brushes etc. which are very cheap if you get them from the 'Studio' section. She's a professional make-up artist, so I was happy to follow her advice and very pleased with what I got. They are a damn sight cheaper than Mac or Ruby and Millie, but just as good quality.

    Hope this helps.;)

Has anybody tried this 'fillable' brush? I bought one from somewhere in the states and it wasn't messy just very unpleasantly hard and scratchy - made me red all over.
I'd like to have one that has the same texture as a good kabuki but with the fillable handle as, other than the itchies it was fantastic for carrying around. Much less messy to use in other people's bathrooms (or at work) than a regular kabuki and pot lid which tends to mean powder all over the sink (and sometimes my clothes and the floor and... if I'm overenthusiastic)

Sorry HanSpan, I haven't tried this type of brush myself, although I know that the woman from the Olay ads, Nina Baggot is it? Swears by a brand of mineral make-up that comes in this type of brush - it might be Jane Iredale, but don't quote me on that.

    Hope someone else can help.

A tip I got from the other long cosmetics thread has worked like a dream for me :j.

I bought a tube of the Lanacane anti-chafing gel, which contains the same ingredients as Smashbox primer - it even smells the same. I used it for the first time today under my Elemental Beauty healing foundation and it's given an even better finish than I had before;). The minerals seem to go on even more evenly and for some reason I don't need so much.

It's a great saving at just £4.99 compared to the Smashbox one.:T

  • Hi all, newbie here. Inspired by this thread, I ordered some EB samples - but the end result was awful! I have combination skin with cheeks that are red, dry and spotty and was hoping that the mineral makeup would cover it all up nicely. One of the shades (Barley) was a really good match, but my skin looks even drier and tighter than in its natural state with all the open pores accentuated and the spots still quite visible. What am I doing wrong?? Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

I have a few visable pores around the middle of my face.
When I tried mineral foundation, thats what I didn't like, it showed them up.

I like a very light foundation & a light dusting of loose powder to set.

    I think I know...

I had a similar experience at first and have come to the conclusion that I was applying far too much, using not a great moisturiser (for me), I was trying too hard and fussing too much - and my skin was very dry.

Since I started using Liz Earle Light (in a pump) as recommended by MrsE - I can't use anything else, for me, it is just right underneath the EB. Also, my skin was very very bad, and I found Viridian comfrey ointment which I apply on my 'grotty' bits at night - its greasy and really helps and calms my skin.

I also have found, since I bought the pink brush from EB to use on holiday (its not a kabuki) I get on alot better with it. It is finer, slimmer and has a longer handle and I find it alot better.

Sometimes I don't even look when I am applying it - I just lightly dust it over in a slap dash way. It is when i 'try' I muck it up!! I have only used the healing foundation so far - I didn't like using a concealer - it was too much mucking about for me in the mornings.

Also - think it was Suki who said - start at the side of the face and go inwards, and that was a top tip. Apologies if it was someone else!

Good Luck - hope some of that helped :D
