Mineral makeup - any good?

Am getting on fine with the Maybelline, thanks. Very comfortable and light but slightly more of a sheen than I would prefer. I normally only wear a translucent matte finishing powder (the Maybelline in fact) and some blusher.
So I have ordered some samples from the Elemental Beauty website - light foundation and finishing powders in several of their, what look like being, more matte styles.
Will probably mix and match a bit then. But as I haven't tried mineral make up before, it will be good to have some comparisons.
I am quite happy with the feel, the coverage and the texture of the Maybelline though, for anyone wanting to try it.
Hi Treliac, I haven't seen you around for a while, was it the 'Fight Back Against Overpriced Cosmetics' thread?
I just wanted to mention that if you want a matte finish, then the Elemental Beauty 'Dewy' finishing powder would probably give you a bit more of a glow than you want. I thought I would try it as I already had a matte finishing powder from Lily Lolo. I am happy with it and find it looks quite natural - although I've been told I look young for my age :j. The preponderance of white sticks in this neighbourhood must be increasing:rotfl:.
Incidentally - my daughter swears by the Maybelline too.

Hi all,
Just thought I'd report back on my EB samples.
I find the application very easy, and the coverage excellent. I think I may have been using a bit too much of the foundation and finishing powder as it has had a tendency to feel like a mask, rather than the barely-there feeling others have talked about. I think I finally got the hang of how much to put on yesterday.
I love the finish the Dewy powder gives, but my skin doesn't like it at all - it's itchy. Not furiously itchy, like some have said about other brands, but it sort of "smarts". The Matt one isn't, and gives a nice enough finish anyway.
I've found that if I just use ordinary moisturiser first, the concealer feels very dry on my under-eye area, but it does look great. Applying a moisturising eye cream first (got a Liz Earle one at the moment) makes the feel and finish of it much better.
I think I'm going to order a full size kit of the foundation (Healing, in English Rose), concealer (Fairly Light) and powder (Matt). It's not perfect, but it does give one of the best end results of any type of makeup I have tried.
One problem I have (nothing to do with minerals per se) is that I tend to have trouble getting my body temperature down after getting out of the shower, and my face pours with sweat for an hour or so afterwards (or stops, then has a sneaky hot flush just as I've put my make-up on. It's just my face, and I'm not sure why it does it.) It doesn't ruin the finish as much as I feared it might, but it doesn't help :rolleyes:Operation Get in Shape

Mineral make-up is brilliant. there are loads of brands and the hard part is finding a brand and shade that works for you. I think, the key is to work out why you are switching to mineral make-up. If it is because you want to have a natural product, bear in mind some brands are more natural than others. Lily Lilo is a brilliant brand and very affordable. BE is good but can be pricey and colour matching is a little more difficult. If you do go for it, I recomment 2 things - firstly use a primer to help the skin be ready for the foundation and it helps the foundation stay (a couple of good ones are Sue Devitt's and Bare Escentuals's). Also, buff away for as long as possible. Get a decent brush - if it is scratchy it is really difficult to buff, but the key is the buffing as the minerals warm up to your skin and then look great.
I think The Body Shop are about to launch their new mineral range so it may be worth trying there. Mineral make-up is one of my minor loves at the moment!!!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Can somebody please explain something to me? A lot of you are advocating wearing a primer. Surely the way minerals work is by coming into contact with the skin and sinking into it, so does a primer not stop them "settling" properly? I'm not making any criticism of anybody, I'd just like to understand better.

A primer stops your skin/moisturiser 'eating' your make up.
A thin layer over moisturised skin will 'hold' the minerals, which still get the warmth from your skin0 -

Oh such good info... I've not used a primer as have found I've been ok. I let my moisturiser sink in for ten mins or so.
As my skin is the best its been in two hundred forty eight years, I am reluctant to experiment anymore at the moment...
Am loving the EB, it likes me. But I want some eye stuff from EB. Meant to try and order some at weekend but got distracted by the need for footwearGenie

Maybe thats why I don't think primers do much, as I wear traditional foundation.
Maybe they work better with mineral foundation.0 -

i don't know how they work with normal foundation.
i've only been using the primer for a few months, but love the way my makeup is still perfect (checks mirror) 15 hours after it was applied0 -

Hi Unity, it's good to hear from you. I pop in and out of the boards, depending on mood and the time I've got
I have ordered the EB dewy finishing powder sample and the matte which might be the better one for me from what you say - cheers. A sheen is probably great for going out in the evening but during the day the matte is more flattering - my face can get quite shiny
I was surprised how reasonable the prices are and can alway try some others if I haven't got it right this time.
Am trying to find some 'retractable' make up brushes, which will be better for travel and to keep the powders from leaking into my bag!
I'm sure your skin looks lovely, testimony to good skin care routine and the right products. It is possible to have all this without spending a fortune. All the shared info on here helps a lot :T0
