Mineral makeup - any good?

OK, so we've established that you find it fairly easy to find a foundation which suits you, which suggests that you probably have a skin tone within a common range - not really light or really dark.
I'd say we've also established that you've probably got a yellow-toned skin because as far as I know it's extremely rare for pinky skin tones to tan as easily as you claim to. (Perhaps somebody with more knowledge of this than me will confirm this).
Why not just have a look at the colour of your Max Factor foundation, pick three or four from the EB website that look a roughly similar colour, and order the samples? There's no rule saying you have to ask advice from Nicola first
And believe me, when you get to trying them on, you'll know if a shade isn't the right colour. I was trying out my samples last night and I started off with the foundation called Blush, which looked like I'd smeared furniture polish on my face  Took it off immediately and put the English Rose one on instead, and bingoOperation Get in Shape

I did try to compare the Max Faxtor one with EM websites just before you replied and I think Honey is the one. But I will also order Blush and Sunshine as they seem close to it as well. The problem is that the EM websites are sort of lightened up and the Max Faxtor is in very rich colour so I cannot be 100% sure.
How about the concelarer? Does it cover the circles under your eyes? I have them too. And how is it used?0 -
Do bear in mind that you're talking to somebody who's been using EB for less than 24 hours :rotfl:
Anyway, the pigment in the foundation seems quite strong (hence the excellent coverage but also the furniture polish look when trying too dark a shade!) so I think you mght be surprised by how richly the colour compares with your MF one.
The concealer - it is worth emailing Nicola to ask if you can try some samples, as they don't officially do them but she sent some to me for free. I have the Fairly Light, Bright Eyes and Colour Corrector. Today I've got the Bright Eyes one on my under-eye area and it is a really good effect, but I haven't quite got the knack of applying it yet - I bought the Concealer/Eyeshadow Brush from EB which is quite a dense, precise applicator, and I'm sure it will work better when I'm more used to doing it, though today I had a bit of trouble applying it evenly so it didn't emphasise the fine lines under my eyes.
One thing I did notice, especially with the foundation, is that I have to strike a very fine balance with using the right amount of moisturiser first. If I use too much it doesn't quite sink in and the minerals really stick to it, giving over-intense coverage - if I don't use enough, the minerals feel quite dry on.Operation Get in Shape

Sounds to me you that you have what they call a medium skin tone - possibly with pinky tones ( if your max factor is to go by)
I would try the kitten and bunny as well as those already mentioned. I thought Id be a beige myself, for a while sand looked like it was the one but now Im more kitten - its not an exact science
And if you are looking to buy a liquid foundation again - always test it along your jaw line. Its the one you cant see that is the best match. Your hand is a different colour from your face0 -

Thanks, I've now ordered the foundation samples and if I decide to go for it I will email Nicola and ask her to pop some concealer samples with my big jar of foundation.
Yesterday I got email from Lilylolo that my order has been dispatched so hopefuly it will arrive today. Cannot wait to try it. Especialy as the last couple of months I have very oily skin and I am hoping it will "eat" some of the oil.
I know what you mean about the moisturiser. When I don't have enough I feel tight (might not have anything to do with the cosmetic) and if I use more I go oily. But not straight away, but in an hour or so. When I am already at work so it's too late to do something with it!!
Maybe some special cream with oil control would help us? Everyone, any advice for us please??:rotfl:0 -

Moisturise much earlier. I tend to put mine on when I jump out the shower so it has time to soak in. Another trick I use if in a rush is to blot my face with a tissue before applying minerals. I also give a first coverage before I do my hair - then after my hair is done I apply more if needed and then finish off my face - bronzer etc. You do need to give minerals a wee while to "work" with your face - warm up and look natural0 -

You are using the wrong moisturiser for your skin ;(
Have you tried the OCM - find the link on the cheap make up alternative thread. So many of us with oil slicks have had great success in clearing them up. I for one went across London in the rush hour to Gatwick this week, boiled in the queues for security and roasted while having a coffee - and still no oil slick or shine - AND NO MAKE UP REQUIRED (unheard off before Id be blotting and dabbing all morning and face would have been a mess)
You also need a light oil free moisturiser, nothing that will clog the pores. Im having good results with Avon liivenaturals (i think its called) but think Liz Earles Light is a great one to start with as that also has a matt finish0 -

I also put my moisturiser on as soon as I am out of the shower - to be honest I even cannot wait any longer as my skin goes funny and tight and it's unconfortable. Then I do my hair and then I put my pressed powder on & mascara. Maybe my skin is still too young (but I am 25??) and produces oil during the day as with teenagers?
My skin doesn't look oily until about 12 o'clock.0 -
I put my moisturiser on and let it sink in for 5 mins before i put my makeup on.
I also have a little spray bottle and put 5 drops of neroli essential oil with some deionised water and spritz it on my face after putting my mineral foundation and blusher on. it helps it 'set' and gives me a dewy look and also stops that dry feeling.0 -
What questions shall I be prepared to answer when I call Nicola? I am affraid I cannot realy described my skin! on EB websites they say "if veins on your wrist are green then you are warm and if they are blue you are cold type", but mine are purple!! I know, now I am just being difficult...:p
I second the Liz Earle light - it suits me.Genie
