Ted where is the best place to get the vitamin D3 tablets from? If i'm going to be wearing my mineral makeup i'd better stock up!

Noble Scarlet are you a recent convert to mineral makeup or have you been using them for sometime?
    xx

    Hi Skyrocket
Probably like you, I've too heard a lot about mineral make up and about its benefits. As it's quite expensive (well, it is to me anyway!) I've recently ordered samples from the lilylolo website. The eyeshadow samples are 29p each and the blushers 49p, postage is from £1.00. They come in the little ziploc bags and I think there is enough for a few applications. Apparently, mineral make up is higher in pigmentation so a little goes a long way.

I'm going to experiment with them for tomorrow night so hopefully I won't have any disasters!
  • Ted I know you've probably posted this a million times but how much Vit d3 do we need to take in capsule form per day if we aren't sunbathing?
My tortoise needs Vit D3 and in winter he has his own special lamp for this. Maybe I should shove him over and sunbath under it too!:D

Oh I can't wait to get my samples of mineral makeup!

    Sure, will do :D

Thanks Ted Hutchinson for the info. I guess that means I'll still wear my sun protection for the summer and not be over zealous with it for the colder seasons, and I'll make sure the rest of my skin gets a good healthy exposure of sunlight.

Healthy men seem to use 3000–5000 IU cholecalciferol a day So if you are not getting vitamin d3(cholecaciferol) from sunlight at all (Face/arms/legs/neck all covered with clothes/sunsblock) your total consumption should average 4000iu a day. Because the half life of Vitamin d3 is around 3 weeks it makes no difference if you take a fortnights supply in one capsule or several, either in one dose or many, providing the average daily intake (including food sources) averages 4000iu/d. However as food sources of Vit d are few and poor, the best are oily fish
Salmon, cooked, 3.5 oz provides 360 IU
Mackerel, cooked, 3.5 oz, 345 IU
    Sardines,1.75 oz, 250 IU
    Tuna, 3 oz, 200 IU
and there is none in our milk as this isn't fortified.
You would have to be eating an awful lot of fish to make much difference.

If you go for the 5000iu capsules you would need 5 a week = 25000 total divided by 7= 3570 assuming you are keeping up with the sardines a couple of times a week.
If you went for the 50,000iu then 50,000 divided by 14 =3570 so one capsule ever other week produces the same result.

There are benefits from getting the sun on your skin that aren't achieved by taking supplements. If you want to get the benefit of Vitamin D3 Protects Skin from Harmful Microbes taking the supplement isn't going to put the cholecalciferol on the surface of your skin where the microbes are. The problem with using Suntan palours/sunbeds is that unless you buy your own and pay extra for high UVB tubes and then log every hour they are in use, you cannot be certain that they are still emitting UVB. Most only have a 500hr UVB lifespan so unless you have a UVB lightmeter you won't know if the sunbed is actually producing UVB and not soley UVA.

I still think the best idea is to put your make up on after you've spent some time (coffee break will be ample) outside.

  • I like BE I like their foundation and finishing powder. Can use very quickly, comfortable on my sensitive skin and stays put. I would recommend.

  • I have used bareMinerals for a few years and recently started hunting for a similar but cheaper brand. I've tried the samples form Lily Lolo and was very impressed with quality and the range of colours that they offer although I think they are still a little too expensive in the full sized versions.

I've ordered a free sample kit from Everyday Minerals after reading some fantastic reviews about them on a makeup site and only had to pay international shipping which was $12. I'm still waiting for it to arrive so I can't say how good it is but I'm hoping it works out for me since their prices for full size products are very, very reasonable. If anyone is interested the site is http://everydayminerals.com and the free sample kit is listed under "Custom Kits".

Ive just recently bought the Loreal true match mineral foundation and its fab. You only need the tiniest bit on the brush and it covers the whole face, also my skin has been so much better...no spots for two weeks which is fab for me especially as im in exam time! its on special at boots and superdrug for £9.99 at the moment. Well worth it!
