  • But given that your face is a relatively small part of your total skin cover, surely this isn't a big deal??
So long as users know that it will act as a sunblock and realise they need to get sun on other parts as well. So short skirts, bare arms, plenty of cleavage and a bare midriff will keep me happy.;)

purely in an unselfish good for their health way of course ;)

Everyone should wear sunscreen every day as the damage to skin is terrible - not sure how to balance that with vitamin D intake though

the girls on Handbag all seem to swear by lilylilo, I've had mixed results with mineral makeup though and generally find it too faffy but that may just be because I don't really do make up.

Wearing sunscreen all day, every day, is the quick way to higher breast cancer/colon cancer and some 16 other cancers. The UK ratio is 30 low vitamin d induced cancer related deaths for each sunBURN induced cancer death, so the odds are very much in favour of getting at least 10-20 minutes skin exposure to UK sunshine as often as possible (at least 3 times a week) between April and end September. Cholecalciferol capsules at an Effective level will enable you to sustain that level throughout the winter.

I sent off yesterday for some samples from Lilylolo which arrived today. I have oily and sensitive skin, which no makeup manufacturer seems to think exists, and hate putting liquid/cream foundations on my skin or dragging it with those sponge applicators used in the compact type foundations.

Tried the mineral makeup this morning and so far so good. I followed the instructions that came with it about applying and it looks fine - and several hours later I still don't look like a chip, which I would with normal foundations.

Because of my skin's sensitivity some of my neck is quite red and the powder has successfully toned that down too without me feeling as though I've got a thick mask of stuff on it.

Obviously it's too early to tell if it will be good for me longer term, but so far it looks promising. And the ease of application is definitely a bonus for me.

Samples were 99p each so I got a few to test colours - there is a bit of advice on the site about what colours might suit.

  • Thanks Lizzy
did you try them out based on this thread?
I have duly ordered some samples from that site. Can't wait till they arrive! Did you find it easy to colour match to your skin? Or can you mix them up?

  • Hi, wanted to respond to the Mineral Make-up thread. After using Estee Lauder and before that No 7 foundations for many years I decided they did not cover up my Roseacea very well and I needed to keep re-applying them over the red areas continually and would often find the patches had come through which I found upsetting. After seeing a QVC presentation I bought some Bare Escentuals mineral make-up and have never looked back. The coverage on the "red" bits on my face is far better and it lasts. Trying to find a cheaper solution I did buy some of the Lily Lilo range but I was disappointed, personally I thought they did not cover my red areas very well, I had some green powder off them that was supposed to cover these but it did not work very well. I now use just the Bare Escentuals foundation and the BE concealer which is more than adequate. Quite a few people have commented on my skin and how well I look which is nice to hear when I know I suffer with Roseacea. I wouldn't use anything else. Ideal World have another brand of Mineral make-up which they are selling which is cheaper than Bare Escentuals but I did not want to buy it and waste my money as you can't try the product and return it as you can on QVC. I always buy my Bare Escentuals from EBAY now as it is far cheaper than QVC. If anyone has bought the Ideal World mineral make-up and compared it to the Bare Escentuals I would be interested in hearing their comments,
  • Re: sun exposure and vitamin D, I'm now starting to wonder if it's necessary to wear moisturisers with spf in them during winter time or is it some marketing ploy we're all falling for to buy more expensive creams?

Speaking of mineral make up, I've just received my order of lilylolo samples. Very quick delivery and the colours look divine! Can't wait to try them!
  • Ted where is the best place to get the vitamin D3 tablets from? If i'm going to be wearing my mineral makeup i'd better stock up!

UVA/UVB info The SPF factor will prevent damage from UVA during the Winter only UVA rays will be available so it won't affect vitamin d production as there aren't any UVB rays to produce Vit d.

If we get some sunny days in March you could, if you able to get out around midday, try to get some sun on your skin as There may be some available but if your natural skin sensitivity to sun is poor you will need sunscreen/spf after you've had your 20mins sunning.

You can start now improving your skins natural sunscreen protection to help you spend more time getting vitamin d in the summer.

The Truth about food item Tomatoes and Skin Protection Is there is there something we can do all year round to give added protection to our skin from harmful UV rays?

How can my diet help protect me from sunburn?: answer

The data support the hypothesis that 1,25(OH)(2)D(3) exerts its photoprotective effects via the rapid pathway and raise the possibility that other D compounds produced in skin may contribute to the photoprotective effects. shows that actually getting a sufficient sun on the skin to generate Vit d actually improves the photoprotection of you skin, so by having sun little and often you gradually build up your skins natural photoprotection. I found taking Vit d during the Winter enabled me to tan very quickly when I started sunbathing last year.

This shows Omega 3 EPA helps protect from sunburn

and Green tea does the same
