Its time to grow up and pay off the mortgage

Last year, I stumbled across the ‘preparing for winter thread’ and read it avidly. I picked up many good tips, but never had the confidence to join in. One day last week there was frost on my car when I left for work :eek:, which made me think I better get back to the OS preparing for winter thread!
I really believe that some of the tips helped me reduce the heating bills and stay cosy (my favourite thing!), so I’m all for making a bit more effort this year. Although I have noticed that I would gladly hibernate and not go out at all!!
I noticed such a difference with my door curtain that I kept it up all year!
So away to research some more sensible ideas for preparing your house and self for winter so I’m not caught out or have to pay over the odds for things last minute.Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Hi QBW,
Hope the below link works, never posted one before! There's lots of good ideas, but I live in a relatively new house so not everything was applicable. Lucky you for having a fire, I would love one for curling up with my books

Mmmm just made a lovely pan of hearty pea &ham soup.
so pleased, I'm learning the basics slowly but surely. Collecting recipes online and giving it a go.
There's heaps of it thothe two of us might be eating it for day's to come, but it only cost about £1.50 for around 8 bowls! So much cheaper than the freh soups we often buy, and tastier too, if I do say so myself:rotfl:
It's so cold here, the soup was a necessity, though I might need to get a bigger pan.
Just thought will make wholesome, cheap lunches for work too. Yum!Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Great thread, thanks for sharing your tips and efforts. Really getting enthused about saving cash now! I just been going through more receipts and so far we have halved our weekly grocery bills simply by being aware of where the money was going and sticking to a plan. Shocking but rewarding.0

I take frozen HM soup portions into work for lunch... defrosted by lunch time and they always give my colleagues lunch envy! (with the exception of broccli and blue stilton which is just stinky unless you're eating it!).MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
Thanks MRN and Kelpie, I'm now clearing space in my freezer especially for my soup. Luckily OH works from home quite a lot so he scored this week, but I'm really looking forward to HM soup in the winter months (though it's been unbelievably cold these past few days
)
I did quite well on my mr T shop yesterday, only buying things to compliment stuff I already had in the freezer and the coupons they'd sent in the post, despite the cashier making out that I was wasting her time, I saved £10Mortgage debt : -£17,000
