Its time to grow up and pay off the mortgage

I saw on hotdeals uk that tesco mag had coupons for washing stain remover £1.50 off, I saw it was on offer half price down to £4.50. So was getting a huge box for £3, I was pretty pleased, until I saw that they'd charged me full price for it. Nipped back in and seemingly it was an old shelf edge ticket, and never should've been half price, so I got double back!! So for free! I was walking out thinking, I just got paid £1.50 for taking this item :T
I've never gotten the double back offer before, and had said to the lady, who replied that they were changing it soon 'as no one else offers it' :eek:Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Southerndave - cheers for posting. I fully recommend taking the time and going through everything you pay for, I sat one day and reviewed the phone, sky, Internet, utilities, etc and researched/compared everything. and still saved a decent amount. I always compare and go for best option at the time, but things change throughout the year and I saved money on just switching to new packages with my same providers.:o
Another thing that shocked me is looking at how much of my pay was spent on work related things - lunches, buses, snacks/coffees. Total waste of money and completely eroded how much I actually earned! I now walk and take packed lunches. Giving myself a pay rise of £1000!!!! :T
I'm still struggling with being sensible with my groceries though!!Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Have a wedding to attend to in the next few weeks and I'm struggling to find a dress I liked, well I did but it was £220. Before I wouldn't have hesitated, so I've definitely changed. So I looked through my wardrobe and found a beautiful coast pencil skirt and fitted top that I've not worn out with this group of friends (lots of weddings / engagement parties lately), tried em on and I'm really pleased, fits and looks nice. Thats my outfit sorted, and saved literally hundreds
plus it's nicer than anything I've seen in the shops!!!!

Thanks sepa, I guess you're right.:T I feel so happy as its another tight month with the majority of my disposable cash automatically disappearing into my first direct saver
I was brought up believing that you should buy the best you can afford and look after it. However there's a time and place for this in this day and age. Sometimes cheap n cheerful does the job, and other items should definitely be 'investments'.
Cost per use is another thing I use to [STRIKE]justify expensive clothes[/STRIKE] work out if something will be worth it. It can be a handy (but dangerous) tool!
Though I dont buy a lot of clothes (hate shopping) they do tend to be of a good quality and 'classics' so generally last ages.Mortgage debt : -£17,000

I can see why people don't bother switching, after receiving my new supplies welcome pack a few weeks ao it said , "don't worry we'll do everything" so I just left it to run its course, got email to set up online account, and there's only gas shown!! Cue a 50min phone call where the rep asked, are you sure you property has electricity?!! Then tried to get me to cancel and reapply again.....err no Cos it was the fixed price deal no longer available!! Give the rep her due she tried every avenue after my persistent asking for the elec to be added on like I originally signed up for. Just logged on now and it seems she's managed
fingers crossed it stays that way!

Oooh although by the end of the month I'm cursing having to manage on £30/40 quid, my regular saver is fairly growing! I've saved more in the past 4 months than I did for the previous entire year because of it
Reg saver = £1200
Isa =£3520
Prem bonds =£2000
Also remembered i have a 3yr share scheme which finishes the day before my 30th birthday so intend to buy a treat for myself:dance: currently has £840 in it.Mortgage debt : -£17,000

Inherited OHs 'old' iPhone when he got the new one yesterday, so I'm really happy. Saw on thisismoney.co.uk that there's a new app coming out that allows you to ‘impulse save’ as easily as spending money on a whim. Means if you forgo a coffee you can log it and the amount automatically goes into your savings account. How awesome!! Read it and thought of mfw!!
I'm definitely going to look into it (and hopefully OH will too) when it comes out!
