Peugeot- They are now good cars...discuss..

OK..i am on the lookout for a replacement motor due to circumstances.

I have homed in on a few choices.

Im thinking newer shape 207 hatchback or SW diesel 1.6 Hdi engine.

French cars used to have a bad press but thats all in the past right..?

The 207 was voted best Euro car of 2011

Maybe you just read the bad stories and not the good ones..?

Peugeot dealerships seems to be very good,,my local one seems friendly enough..

If you have experience either in the trade or a customer,,speak forth and convince me that a pug is a good buy..err..or a good bye.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I've never had any problems with french cars.
They're similar to others, avoid the early models, after a year or two they've fixed all the niggles on the road, the same as everyone else.
We've had old peugeots, o;d renaults, they start every day, and never stop.

    Found this...surely this is dodgy/illegal?

    http://www.removemydpf.co.uk/peugeot-dpf-removal/

Surely most car turbos are Garrett manufactured and common to many makes/models?

Am i right in saying the common rail diesel HDI engine is a development between BMW/Mini..?

DPF seems to be an issue with low speed stop start journeys..?

I'm currently driving a 10 year old 206,Before that it was a 13 year old 309.Never had a problem with them apart from the usual suspects (tyres, exhausts ect)
Before that I had other Pugs & never had any problems, the first two cars I had,an MG Metro & a Vaulhall Cavalier, were always giving me problems! (And they were a lot newer than the 13 year old 309)
  • I concur. I have driven old pug 405s and now drive a 406. It's brilliant. Never failed me yet.

Dont talk to me about the new VW's I have had though. They all had so many problems and failures I would never buy a VAG group car ever again.

Removing the DPF is (currently) legal as the only emissions test you have to pass after registration is the basic MOT one.

It may change in future, like the recent change to get people who have removed the catalytic converter from their cars.

Peugeot haven't made a car that was worth the hassle of owning one, since 2000-2001.

So do most con men until they've got your money......
So do most serial killers, until they lock the door behind you......

Personally, I find people who are overly friendly (or false) to be stupid and untrustworthy.

If you have experience either in the trade or a customer,,speak forth and convince me that a pug is a good buy..err..or a good bye.

Walk into a dealership as the owner of a 5+yr old vehicle, looking to get parts and you instantly become a 2nd class citizen.
But that's unfair in a way, because Peugeot (or any other manufacturer) have no control over how their franchised dealerships treat their customers.
“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Peugeot ownership...... My much loved and missed 306.

But as I said above, the drive/performance made it ONLY JUST worth the hassle of owning one.

Everythingh since 2001 (the last 306 GTI, Rallye and 106 GTI) has been far too boring, soft, boat like and OAPish (unless heavily modified).

Hassles are mainly electrical, Peugeot/Citroen/Talbot scrimp on their electrical systems development and crucially on the quality of the wiring and connectors used in the vehicles.... Once they're a few years old, corrosion sets in and near untraceable fault's start appearing, often leading to costly ECU replacements by garages that simply haven't a clue what's wrong with them.
