Well, some of them do anyway. Others are built by Mitsubishi in Japan, and I don't see too much French electricals there.

    Not any in europe.
But you're right, they have heavy tie up's with PSA as well, and share technology. They had some tie up with what used to be Volvo as well.
A lot of joint venture with China as well, so if you like chinese, they're the company for you.

(Don't forget, the Mitsubishi brand was nearly killed off by the scandals of the early 00's, so I doubt they're be back with the same name though. They're a niche market now.)

We sold an 06 car with that engine - the DPF went, the turbo went and its blowing out blue smoke randomly and noone can tell us why. We've spent nigh on £3,000 on the car, and noone can get it running right.

Did you follow your DPF regeneration regime when the light first came on ?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

The car came to us with the DPF light on. We had it checked out and opted to remove the DPF and have it programmed out.

I didnt really mind as its not the first (peugeot) engine we've had to do that with. THEN the turbo went, so that was £1800 by the time it was finished by the main dealer, THEN there was a new rocker cover / breather / valve fitted at £280, and its STILL blowing out blue smoke at times.

Car has 116K miles and is otherwise running fine.

Turbo failure on that engine is extremely common at 100-120K miles. I know of an 08 Peugeot Partner van with 100K miles on it and its got the same problem. On its second turbo, and heading for a third.

Presumably the turbo is made by Garrett and simply bought in by peugeot?

Yes, though the problem is that there are a load of pipes and bits need replaced because they get polluted with oil. Also, there are some 'mods' that need applied (to improve oil flow to the turbo?) otherwise they wont stand over the turbo installation.

£600 for the turbo, £600 or so for ancilliaries and £600 for labour.

A lot of people make the mistake of just bolting another turbo on - it usually lasts 2-3 months before it goes again if you dont do it right.

Then theres the floating flying issues. I havent - yet - had any experience of them failing on the 1.6, but i've come across several on the 2.0HDI.

There are all 2006 cars onwards too.

Oh and then theres the rear axle bushing failure on the 206. Have come across several of those.

The Citroen C-Crosser/Peugeot 4007 are badge-engineered versions of the Mitsubishi Outlander, built using Japanese-made components in Mitsubishi's factory in the Netherlands, and based on the GS platform.

The Citroen C-ZERO/Peugeot iON are badge-engineered versions of the electric Kei-Car the Mitsubishi i. These cars are built in Okayama.

It's interesting that the mighty PSA's push into the electric car market seems to consist entirely of importing a bunch of "scandal-hit" foreign junk, peeling off the sticker on the front, putting a Peugeot badge on and passing it off as their own :rotfl:

They always were niche. MMC produced around 1.1 million vehicles worldwide in 2010, slightly higher than for 2000. They've never exceeded 1.5m sales.

It must be said as well that apart from a couple of very high profile cases, the majority of the scandal related to defects that would not generally qualify for recall in the UK. It's telling that the total number of recalls effected outside Japan totalled around 7,000 cars, as opposed to 150,000 in Japan itself.

7000 recalls hidden from view over 30 years? Can't see that affecting my buying decision, especially after the recalls that had to be dragged out of PSA and Renault by Watchdog over the years!

I would never have said Mitubishi were junk, they've always been as good as any other manufacturer. I thought you were a keen Japanese flag waver? ;)

PSA have a joint venture with BMW on hybrid sytems as well.

As I said, most manufacturers now are interchangable somewhere down the line.

(Even as you say, the badge engineered Outlander coming out of the old DAF factory, if it's based on the GS even that was a joint venture with Daimler/Chrysler. There's also a Fiat badged variant as well loosely on a GS platform)

Different standards for the home market, and abroad maybe?

I have a 207 and I love it! I've never regretted buying it since the day I got it!!

Prior to this I have a Renault Clio so i've always liked a good Frenchy!!
    A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."
