How does their criteria on accepting NCB proof vary from other companies exactly? You don't explain exactly why you think they might not accept it? Surely you could have put the scenario to them by email and attached your documents to see if they would accept them before you decided to cancel. They couldn't have taken away your right to cancel in 14 days.

Perhaps, but I just didn't really want to take the risk after reading all the horror stories. If I kept the policy and have problems down the line, I don't want to be stressing out over emails and waiting days for replies. It's not worth it to me.

ETA: There is a £30 administration fee, even for cancelling within the 14 days.

Re: NCB. I have drove on and off for the last 4 years/ not continuosly had a car for various reasons. The only certificate I could find with proof of 1yrs no claim was from May2010. I knew they don't accept from this far back. I have asked my current car insurance company for proof but they say they can't until my insurance expires on the car (May 2013). My last insurer would take any documentation for NCB regardless of its age.

Most insurers will only accept NCB from up to 2 years ago, so a May 2010 NCB is unlikely to help you anywhere.

However many other insurers seem to take the word of the insured on how much bonus they have and only choose to demand proof in the event of a serious accident that is going to mean a big payout. Unfortunately at that stage most of the other insurers would then either turn round and say you had no insurance or at least demand you pay them the different between your actual premium and the premium with no NCD discount.

In a way QuoteMeHappy are trying to do the right thing by making sure they only take on customers with real NCB proof that is acceptable but where they go wrong is in refusing to provide a phone line to discuss the matter where they have turned down proof of bonus. Also they move to cancelling the policy far too early in only 21 days if NCB proof to their liking is not forthcoming. Given their own very slow admin this is completely unreasonable and they should let customers have at least 60 days to sort out the Proof of Bonus issue. This is because in the most difficult cases there can be a lot of tooing and froing, including by the customer with earlier insurers who have no interest in responding in a timely manner, that could easily take up to that much time to resolve.

Currently got a similar hassle with InsuranceFactory/Zenith. They want NCB proof and photocopies of both our driving licences within 14 days. Has to be done via post too. Of course they only tell you this after taking your money and the insurance has already started.

I don't even know where to find a photocopier right now. I'm working from home, the office is in the middle of a site move and my local post office doesn't have one any more as nobody used it.

Did eventually find one, but now it's got to go special delivery in order to meet the deadline, else I'll be stuck answering yes to "ever had a policy cancelled" for the rest of my life.

I have been insured in my own name for 26 years now and in all that time no insurer has ever asked to see a copy of my driving licence even though I have been with at least seven different insurers and made at least five or six policy claims.. Not even QuoteMeHappy asks for that.

Normally they only ever ask for a copy of the Driving Licence in the event of a very big value payout. Seems to me that Zenith are hoping people screw up and they can then add on lots of unfair admin charges in a Ryanair type of way.

Well that would explain why they were £100 cheaper than the second best quote.

Well it turns out you can email the documents, at least according to the response I had back to my question about where to even send them.

That's saved me a fiver at least. Might also post them Recorded just in case.
  • Received a quote from Quote me Happy and then when I retrieved the quote they had added £10 and because I had cancelled my old policy and I just went with this to save any bother. I paid in full on the 28th March 2013 and the insurance was to run from the lst April.
On the 2nd April I wanted to use my car and I checked on the ASKMID site and found that my car was not on the data base. I tried to contact qmh and found that I could not phone them tried to e.mail them and that would not work, so I phoned the police and asked what my position would be although I have printed the documents off. The police told me that as far as they were concerned if I got stopped the fact that I had my documents would make no difference and I would be done for having no insurance which could mean having my car removed. I would have to pay a fee to get my car back so I found out that Aviva is the parent company of QMH and phoned them, they were helpful and tried to send a e.mail to QMH they came back and said they thought it would be ok for me to use my car and I said to them I want that to be definite but they just kept on saying it should be ok to use it which is not good enough she got a bit off hand and said she didn't have to do this and asked me if I wanted to put in a complaint which I did. So I would personally keep away from this website!!!!.:mad:
  • trecker 901,

I think QMH will say that if your insurance is in effect with them then you will be able to both log in to your customer account and view the policy schedule and certificate of insurance on their website to confirm this. Although in reality we do know that their website has gone down from time to time.

Of course we have also heard of some people who can't log in to their online account for whatever reason due to password issues even when the QMH website is up. The most common QMH policy is that proof of bonus is not considered valid so a customer has to end up cancelling if they cannot use the complaints process to resolve the issue of the lack of bonus proof.

It does seem unacceptable for QMH not to have an "is this registration number insured with us and if so when is it insured until" function on their website that anyone can use to look up an individual car registration number in view of the fact that they won't speak to customers on the phone, even in situations of dire extremis like needing to drive right now and not knowing whether or not you will be insured if you do so.

It seems that the QMH Managing Director, Marco Distefano, is not very good at listening to feedback from his customers on this particular point.
  • Quote me happy are great with prices but terrible with customer service. They have taken a ridiculous amount of time to respond to an issue with my NCD and left me in the dark for weeks. When I finally received a response it was selective and unhelpful.

I have sought legal advice as I think they're customer service team are refusing to accept some of my documents for personal as opposed to professional reasons and are being deliberately unhelpful.

I am never insuring with them again and am currently looking into switching to another insurer, whatever the cost. Last year I was with Insure The Box and they were a delight!

P.S. you'll never know the benefit of being able to speak to someone until you're with an online only insurer.
