• QUOTE ME HAPPY NIGHTMARE.......
Hello, please can someone give me some accurate advice on what my best option is? Last night Friday (24.05.13 ) at 4.40pm , QMH text me to say they had cancelled my motor insurance due to not having received my NCD proof. I had sent them my previous insurers proof (5 yrs) but they had written to me on 09.05.13 to say it didn't match with the number of years I had told them. I went through historic paper work and found my old Esure insurance certificate dated 2008 showing 5 yrs NCD, therefore a total of 10years NCD. I posted this to them in 12.05.13 (I don't have a scanner). I hadn't heard anything from them so was just awaiting insurance documents. At 4.40pm on a Friday afternoon how am I supposed to resolve anything when you can't take to them on the phone. I have sent several emails and as advised I've emailed the CEO of Aviva. The problem is, I need to get to work this bank holiday weekend. It is 12 miles away in a rural location so no public transport. Do you advise me to get new insurance this weekend with a different insurer or take taxi s to and from work and then try to reinstate my QMH insurance on Tues 28th May when they re open?? They have also charged me £53 to cancel my policy. I am really frustrated & stressed..... Thank you. ps I haven't used a forum before so not sure if I'm 'posting' it in the correct area....??? Sorry

UPDATE ....Following my recent post I used a comparison site to get new insurance quotes. If I tick the box to say 'I have never had a policy cancelled' the cheapest quote is £262. When I untick this box because QMH have cancelled my insurance the cheapest quote (of only 8 !!) is £429. Please help.........

I think you have already emailed OfficeOfTheCeo@aviva.com? Even if you have send it again also addressed to John.Macfarlane@aviva.com (Chairman) and Mark.Wilson@aviva.com (CEO) personally restressing the urgency and the need for action IMMEDIATELY. Also request a Read Receipt if your email set up lets you do this.

In addition you should also send the same email and with additional comments re the urgency to social@quotemehappy.com with cc to team@quotemehappy.com and marco.distefano@quotemehappy.com and marco.distefano@aviva.com (Marco Distefano is the MD of QuoteMeHappy but I can't remember for sure whether his email address is @quotemehappy.com or @aviva.com)

To encourage urgent action if you are not already a member of it you should join Facebook and make a post on the QuoteMeHappy Facebook page about your plight at www.facebook.com/Quotemehappy

In spite of the notice QuoteMeHappy have sent you telling you that your insurance is cancelled (it seems outrageous that they give no notice and don't give a final 7 day warning) it might not actually be cancelled yet in terms of what the Police see on their little computers in their cars etc or what DVLA see through their spy camera network around the country.

You can check whether you are still insured on the Motor Insurers Database (which is what the Police take as gospel) by entering your registration number at http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/

If you can Tweet (now might be a good time to start) you might also want to send some Tweets on the matter @QuoteMeHappy @AvivaUK Tweets to these firms as this can often be remarkably effective. As Corporal Jones would have said "they don't like it up em sir, they don't like it up em" ...............

Good Luck. It does seem wrong completely that Aviva don't at least have a 50p per minute 0906 number to contact them in this kind of situation. Unfortunately the Managing Director of QuoteMeHappy does not seem to be very good at listening to what his customers are telling him.

My understanding of the having insurance cancelled box is really if they cancelled the insurance because you turned out to be a fraudster or conman and not because of a dispute about proof of bonus. I would probably recommend taking the policy out without ticking the insurance cancelled box (which will cover you for your journey today) and then get it agreed on the phone with the insurance company at supervisor level that being unable to prove your bonus to QuoteMeHappy does not constitute a cancellation because you are of bad character or have a criminal conviction for fraud etc.
• The Press Office is usually a good way go in these kind of urgent situations because they work at the weekend.

So try sending an email to the Press Office (an outside PR firm - detailed listed at https://www.quotemehappy.com/about-us/press-office) via qmh@bluerubicon.com They probably have some contact details for pretty senior people at QuoteMeHappy and your situation clearly is urgent and cannot wait till Tuesday. Press contact people normally work 9am to 9pm seven days a week in terms of when its reasonable to try and contact them.
• See also the other QuoteMeHappy thread on this forum about a member who had their car policy cancelled by text by QuoteMeHappy when it was their fault.

This is at https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4089283

Initially QMH staff lied and said they could not reinstate it once it was cancelled.. Then after he chased them numerous times they finally caved in and reinstated it.

Check the Askmid database as indicated above and see if you are still shown as covered there for today and if so print out proof and take it with you on your journey.

Also you can try this number for Claims that they used to show on their website and that is still listed at www.saynoto0870.com -

01603 604914

If you stress the urgency of your need to drive etc perhaps they can contact somebody on the insurance side of the company. Of course I'm not saying that they will be helpful but its worth a try.

Whatever happens with this you absolutely must make a complaint to the Financial Services Ombudsman even if you end up moving insurer. It is time that QMH were massively taken to task over their completely unacceptable behaviour viz sudden policy cancellations without reasonable warning and no way for the customer to dispute this or get it reversed in an urgent situation
• Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it's so kind of you. I've just got home from work and I'm shattered so I'll take a good look tomorrow and act on your advice, Again, many thanks. Charlie

Don't drive without getting cover in place!

Irrespective of the rights or wrongs, if they have told you the policy has been cancelled and you continue to drive then you are driving uninsured which apart from being illegal with big problems if you get caught, you will have all claims refused, and although any third party would get paid out via the uninsured driver scheme, you will have to reimburse all money paid.

Obviously this is good advice but QuoteMeHappy uniquely seem to put people in an impossible position.

Every other major insurer I am aware of is contactable on the phone 364 days a year, even if on Saturdays, Sunday and Bank Holidays the hours of contact may be limited to only 4 or 6 hours. Only QMH says contact us by message and then takes the fact that they don't take phone calls as an excuse to not be available for the whole of a bank holiday weekend. And when they do respond their responses are always unilateral and unchallengeable.

I accept that there are many advantages for insurers on costs in doing normal admin in terms of both policy issuing, vehicle change and even claims online but if an out of the ordinary situation arises there has to be phone contact. The principal reason for this is that online only contact is always taken as an excuse not to respond for days on end. If online messaging was real time (for instance one operative can often handle four chat session at once since so many customer phone queries are routine and ask the same old things that can be covered by cut and paste answers). then someone with a real problem could by persisting make it clear the issue needed escalating and the customer could be called back where a discussion was needed.

QMH's position that they never do phone, even if initiated at their end, is simply not credible and not reasonable. And if they have such a policy they should give the customer as much latitude on time to put right documentation etc as possible. Instead they have very unreasonable short deadlines for resolving problems and then when they make an error there seems to be no way to achieve an urgent remedy.

I find it incredible that QuoteMeHappy have not yet had some very major rulings against them by the Financial Services Ombudsman for leaving people in the lurch and uninsured quite unreasonably.:mad:
