Grocery Challenge - February 2012

Evening all.
I got some of the golden syrup from A$da today, thanks to those who posted about it. Had 4 bottles to go in our porridge. Should last quite a long time. Also got a 3kg bag of All!nsons strong bread flour for £2 and a tub of yeast, 98p. I bought a food storer too which I wouldn't normally count in with the groceries but it's to put the flour in so I will. That was £1.60 on roll back. So a total spend of £6.58 to add to my tally.
Hugs to all in need or want of one.

Hi everyone,
Please can I join you with my first Grocery Challenge? Just had a MASSIVE reality check and really need to to cut back on our grocery shopping. I thought we were spending about £350 a month and I've just added up all the receipts from January and it was nearer £550!!
Anyway the good thing is that Mr BLB is up for the challenge too (he's a joint culprit as he works next to a large supermarket and has a naughty habit of popping in at lunchtime). We've so far spent £214 of our £400 budget for the month - this includes nappies and cleaning stuff.
Wish me luck!0 -
Hello Everyone,
Gosh, this thread gets long, doesn't it? I have to add a small spend today as I popped into the SM to get a couple of items. My vegetable basket is looking a bit low, but I am waiting to stock up at the farmers' market on Saturday. I now only have just under £25 to last until the end of the month, but I think I can do it.
Hope you are all managing to stick to your budgets!
Hugs

I have completely messed up:mad::mad::mad:..... Last week I was doing so well:T that I decided we could treat ourselves to fish and chips for tea (£19.50) completely forgetting that before I started this challenge in January I had committed to doing a dinner party (7 courses and 5 different wines for 9 foodies:eek:) this week. I am going to go seriously over if I'm not careful! Fortunately I have most of the wine on the shelf.
We're well stocked and the freezer inventory looks healthy but now have only £17 to feed 5 adults for the rest of February. (13 days to go ) Lets hope there's plenty of left overs from the dinner party :rotfl::rotfl:
Will keep you posted on progress.... hope you are doing better than me.

Hi all
Just a small spend of 77p to report today - this was for milk, YS carrots, YS sugar snap peas and YS baby corn. I used £2.50 from my N3ctar card - it was in Mr S. Not the cheapest veg in the world, but I did go there specifically for whoopsies and the corn and snap peas I see as treat veg, (I paid 99p and 69p today), so it was very appreciated! Plus, none of it was going over at all, really fresh!
I'm going to be attempting to live mostly on what I've got (except for milk really) for the rest of the month - I'm so skint due to SA and losing some pay next month that I need to be really careful.
Luckily my bits of the cupboards are very full :T
Anyway, take care all

I laughed so much DH asked what was up
First time I've hunted for reduced stuff as I don't seem to see any during the day, walked into town especially to look, glad I found some so I didn't waste my 2 mile walk!
Found:
2 x 1.5kg Stew packs for 22p each
1 x Pack of 4 Jumbo Sausage rolls - 29p
1 x Pack of 2 meat and potato pies - 29p
1 x Pack of 2 Large Cornish Pasties -29p
2 x Snack pot mini cocktail sausages 0.09p
I also bought so carrots and onions on the 30p offer, 3 types of cheese and some valentines cake and ice cube moulds (arn't sure they are essential, DH says we should keep them, but I might take them back yet! Spent £11.39.
Had 13 NSD days this month thanks to the snowand really proud to say for the first time ever I am freezing extra potions, and making things stretch. Normally a jar of korma sauce for 4 would be eaten in one sitting, but my 1yo and 2yo hardly any so me and DH would eat the rest! Now I water it down slightly and eat the next day, there is still plenty and it feels like we have "free" meal.
Good luck with your budgets:hello:Wife & SAHM of 4 children aged between 9 and 3

Small spend in Mr T's yesterday of £2.66, which included a whoopsied loaf of bread for 17p. I was very pleased with myself, as I went to the mahoosive Mr T's, and I did have a wander while I was in there, although I only went in for milk, but only bought the milk, baking marg and the bread.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Hi everyone. I feel really bad that I'm still struggling to get back into the swing of the thread
I know there have been the odd purchases I have missed out so have estimated them, just things like bottle of milk or some broccoli but little things can add up! I'm at £44 (inc estimates) so far this month which is okay, I've done a big tesco shop and don't need to buy much else. Fruit, veg, milk and some Lidl bread flour(can't beat it!).
I bought some tesco cooking bacon and was expecting big thick chunks and slices like it was a few years ago but it was just like nearly minced normal bacon and very smokey! I was a bit miffed but it's actually delicious and one 500g pack has done lentil & bacon soup, several omlettes, posh scrambled eggs and baked spud toppings.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45
