    For Goodness sake!!!

Please someone lock the doors of Mr#S# I was not going in there at all yesterday and then thought I would just take a quick peep. £126 later and I came out.:eek::eek:

On the upside I loaded up with lots of bulk stock buys and freezer whoopsies. I think I have enough washing powder/liquid for about 4-5 months, diswasher tabs 2 months and I've lost count of the number of toilet rolls we have,

There is some nice whoopsied fish in the freezer too, along with a couple of joints, and lots of butter/spread and whoopsied bread.

I will console myself with the fact that I wont have to use any of this tonight because we are going to dinner with DS, Hooray:T

I will now update my signature:o

    Have a good evening everyone.

Hello everyone - good to see the challenge in force! I would like to join the challenge, with an annual budget this time. Although I do budget monthly I have a figure I would like to keep to this year, which is £1300. I hope I can join in the challenge too? I will return with what I have spent so far for Jan/Feb. Keep up the good work!

got stew for tea it smells really nice and is keeping the kitchen warm....take care tess
    onwards and upwards
  • Tess you always seem so organised!! Wish I was! Having said that, I am currently boiling a ham, and I have just cut up some veggies ready to put straight into the stock with some lentils to make soup. If I don't do it straight away, I won't do it (as I showed myself last time - put the stock into the fridge, then a week later put it into the bin. GRRR!!)

My two are really tired today, so hopefully they'll go to bed a bit earlier, and I'll have a lovely evening. The house is tidy and clean (enough!), so I shall be able to put my feet up with a mug of hot chocolate!

    'See' you all tomorrow,

Hi 116million:D glad to have you join us.... I'm trying the annual budget for this reason too - I found last year, I'd overspend in a "stocking up month" and then forget to reduce the next couple of months' budgets to catch up .. overspend again and then just write it off as a bad month & just start again with the same budget the next month etc etc.

The result was that I still spent quite a bit more than I wanted to over the whole year - so hoping this may keep me on track better!:D

I think I am going to try your risotto in the SC - I have never been successful in making a risotto the rice always ends up hard or a soggy mess! But I do like to use my SC on workdays so will give it a go.

I used to have terrible trouble with Risotto - I found a fab and VERY easy recipe (Chicken & Leek Risotto on the list at the start of the thread) which has worked every time. It could easily be adapted for other ingredients HTH:)

Just popped to horrorsons as we have friends coming for dinner on sat and my new sparkly slow cooker arrived today! Not going to count sat evenings food as we were supposed to be going out but too broke for restaurant prices so it will come from entertainment 'budget'.:o

But spent £8.74 from grocery budget and seemed to get loads. More of the 30p fruit and veg for next week (just in case it's a one off), cereal and lamb bones! I'm sure there's a lovely sounding soup on the recipe thread made with them so must hunt it out. Should have seen DH face when he saw them :rotfl::rotfl:

Should now stay out of SM til tues so have a good weekend everyone. :)

  • Also for Amazon, you can trade in old cookbooks (or any books they consider textbooks) that you don't want any more for gift certificates. Sometimes the prices aren't great (25p for some of my books!) but one was getting nearly what I paid for it. So that got traded in, have credit sitting on my account now that I'm deciding what to do with. Thinking the Heston at Home book.

ohhhhh that's good to know - I've got some text books up the loft from when I finished my uni course (quite recently) and also loads of cookbooks.... there are many that I only used 1 or 2 recipes from :o so I've copied the page and stuck them in a ringbinder - I just didn't have room for all the books in my kitchen!

did get the coffee on offer, 5kg of sugar, 10 kg of rice (not a clue what to do with this so will need to look up some different rice meals) 2x washing liquid,2x washing up liquid (they are hiding in the cupboard at the front door with the other ones i bought on special as have no room left in the kitchen to store them ) the rice is under the stairs with the 2 5litre bottles of oil (again on special) i see a theme running here :D. The kids pasta is on top of the cupboard with the 30 tins of beans (offer again)

Chuckling at this ... reminds me of me!:) I now have an "overflow" cupboard to store bulk bought/offer stuff that I can't fit in my "normal" cupboards:o Haven't resorted to under the bed as yet ......
