Hello georgieb
I'll move your thread to the 'Old Style' board, where the cooking experts will see it.;)

Hi burnsguitarman,
There's a recent thread on the actifry so I've added your post to it to keep all the replies together.

burnsguitarman wrote: »Hi, We bought an actifry from costco around £100. It is really easy to use and yes only one spoon of oil for real chips. We have only used it 3 times as yet but are very happy with our purchase. I tried frozen chips (as I already had some) and these were very good, and we tried the recipe for bananas which I loved. (we are having them again tonight). Best of all there are no bad smells!
Ooooh hot bananas! do tell......:wave:0 -
Oh no, not another kitchen gadget!! I have an unhealthy obsession
and I'm running out of room, what with the slow cooker, bread maker, donut maker, waffle cone maker, kenwood chef (x2!), dehydrator, slicer, ice cream maker........all bought since I started to read this site, I hasten to add!
I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!0 -
The banana's are really simple. Slice 4 or 5 bananas put them into the actifry, along with a spoonful of brown sugar (I used a spoon of honey instead) Switch on, and, about 5 mins later you have lovely hot bananas. They remain in slices and not at all mushy. I served them with ice-cream.. Yummy!0

I have read about the Actifry and as others have asked and had no replies to date, I will also ask......
Am I right in thinking that the method of frying in so little oil is that the food gets rotated around the fryer? If this is the case, I would imagine all sorts of foods will fall apart during the 'stirring' process (thinking specifically of the Spam fritters now). I do my chips by spraying an oven tray with oil, laying the chips on in a single layer, spraying them with oil and cooking in a hot oven for ½ hour or so. This uses no more than a teaspoonful of oil and has cost me nothing and the chips are fab.
I use this method for all my roast veg as well and everyone likes them, so would I benefit from buying an Actifry?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I must add the bananas were cooked immediately after cooking chips. Just a quick wipe with kitchen roll, was all I needed to do before adding the nana's.0

I have to confess that I haven't tried many recipes up to now. The 'stirring' action is very slow, and up to now, nothing has fallen apart. The recipe book that is supplied seems to suggest that this wont happen. I wouldn't like to say that you should buy one on my say so, but I'm very happy with mine, its just so easy and clean.0

The Actifry is a great idea, and really does produce tasty chips without the mess or fat content of a deep fat fryer. Sadly though there is a major design flaw- the plastic lid is far too weak. Mine has cracked inside where it joins the back of the lid, presumably through expansion with heat. I'm not amused that this has happened after 3 months of (very careful) use, especially when I paid £150 for it.0
