I found cilit bang pretty good when I cleaned the oven at my old place. Leave it on for a good while before you scrub. Could you perhaps tape a brush to a broom handle or something so you can get to the back without bending? Word of warning with cilit bang-make sure you have a window open because the fumes are nasty! Good luck :-) xA Bag A Month Challenge member0

Oven Pride all the way. I think you can get it in Asda. It's the one where you put the shelves in the bag with the stuff and leave it overnight and all the cr*p just rinses off in the morning. It's astonishing.
Aldi definitely have a lot of stock of BBQ pride which is the same thing but different letters on the front for even cheaper.
Seriously, it will change your life.;)Debt £26k 18/10/140 -
Veggiecatlady I think I've got some of that in the back of a cupboard somewhere (hated the smell and only used it the once) so will dig it out and give it a try.
Good idea about the brush, I've got a long handled floor mop thing with a flat head so will see if I can adapt that! ta:D
Thanks Banwa, will see if they've got that too.:)

THe best by far if you can afford it is Oven pride (available to public as other stronger chemicals are available to specialists). A cheap alternative for the racks and gril pans are to soak them in the bath in washing powder. Wear rubber gloves to then clean with steel pads after a few hours soaking. This is what I have to do when my tenants move out!I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.

Another vote for Oven Pride, this is the only stuff that dissolves the baked on blackness. Need to use a bag (for the grills) and gloves when cleaning it (otherwise you'll end up with burns). On our end of tenancy our oven was spotless after 6 yrs of baked on rubbish because of this, the landlady was well impressed with the cleanliness of the oven.

Oven Pride is great and you can use it to wipe inside the oven as well - just keep some back in the bottle, leave over night and voila a clean oven without too much effortBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Oven Pride normally includes a pair of rubber gloves in the box but they are pretty flimsy. Maybe not necessary, but I bought a pair of ASDA's own rubber gloves and felt more confident using them.
Also, tip learned on here, do the roof of the oven by using the stuff thinly, give it an hour, then apply another coat and then another coat an hour after that. ,0 -
Fantastic! Thanks all.
Looks like Oven Pride is going in the shopping trolley!:D
Might give it a wee go with the Cillitbang today to try to get a bit off meantime (smoulders horribly when I need to use the oven:o)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi,
I use this http://www.barkeepersfriend.com/ along with one of those aluminium scrubby things. But not the cheap ones, they are false economy.
Have a look at this picture - http://www.lakeland.co.uk/8868/Bar-Keepers-Friend?src=gpcle&gclid=CKiPxpD79qsCFYob4QodvEjTwg
This is a picture of the bottle I buy, which can be bought from Asda and all other supermarkets as well.
Edited to add, you don't really need alot of eblow grease, just a rub with the powder and the scrubby thing.0 -
I used to use that on my sink at home, great stuff. Never occurred to me to try it on the oven.Herman - MP for all!0
